One of nine Technology Assessment Review (<a data-mz=\"\" href=\"https://www.intertasc.org.uk/\" rel=\"no-follow\">TAR</a>) teams, we deliver independent evidence reports for the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (<a data-mz=\"\" href=\"https://www.nice.org.uk/\" rel=\"no-follow\">NICE</a>) alongside an active programme of other research, including cost-effectiveness analysis in the context of clinical trials, evidence synthesis and decision modelling.</p>\n\n\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 20px; font-family: san-serif;\"><strong>About the role</strong></p>\n\n\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 20px; font-family: san-serif;\">We have two posts available and can take on either two Level 4 Research Fellows or one Level 5 Senior Research Fellow and one Level 4 Research Fellow. See below for the full specifications of these posts.</p>\n\n\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 20px; font-family: san-serif;\">Our Research Fellows work as part of the health economics and modelling team within SHTAC. At the core of these roles is work on projects for NICE. This involves critical appraisal of evidence and industry models, exploration of alternative scenarios and uncertainties, and writing reports for NICE Committees and other stakeholders. Research Fellows will contribute to other collaborative research: analysing clinical trial data and developing health economic models.</p>\n\n\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 20px; font-family: san-serif;\">Senior Research Fellows are responsible for line managing and supervising staff and leading and coordinating research projects, as well as leading the development of research proposals.</p>\n\n\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 20px; font-family: san-serif;\">Typical tasks might be…</p>\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>Planning and co-ordinating project work and talking with colleagues</li>\n<li>Identifying and liaising with experts to learn about the topic area</li>\n<li>Appraising cost effectiveness evidence from companies and published literature</li>\n<li>Checking industry models for errors or unrealistic assumptions</li>\n<li>Using models to test alternative scenarios and explore uncertainty</li>\n<li>Analysing clinical trial data and developing new models</li>\n<li>Writing reports and papers for peer reviewed journals</li>\n<li>Attending and preparing for meetings with NICE, industry and committees</li>\n<li>Meeting with research collaborators and developing new proposals</li>\n</ul>\n\n\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 20px; font-family: san-serif;\"><strong>What we’re looking for:</strong></p>\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>A PhD* or equivalent qualification and experience in economics, statistics, operational research or another analytical discipline</li>\n<li>Excellent writing and communication skills</li>\n<li>Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel for data analysis, including advanced features in financial, statistical and lookup formulae, and VBA Macros</li>\n<li>Excellent general IT knowledge and skills, including Word, PowerPoint and reference management software (e.g. EndNote)</li>\n</ul>\n\n\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 20px; font-family: san-serif;\">It would also be useful if you have experience with:</p>\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>Statistical / modelling software, e.g. Treeage, STATA, R, winbugs, SIMUL8</li>\n<li>Health economic evaluation and decision modelling (essential for Senior Research Fellow)</li>\n<li>Evidence synthesis (e.g. quantitative meta-analysis; network meta-analysis)</li>\n<li>Medical statistics (e.g. survival analysis)</li>\n<li>HTA methods and processes (essential for Senior Research Fellow)</li>\n<li>Delivering research projects to deadline and quality standards</li>\n<li>Personal research in HTA or related area</li>\n<li>Project management</li>\n</ul>\n\n\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 20px; font-family: san-serif;\">* We encourage applications for the Research Fellow position from candidates who are working towards or nearing completion of a relevant PhD qualification.
