{"job":{"jobId":2423252,"fk_accountId":null,"fk_organizationId":1194,"fk_adminAccountId":null,"title":"Technology Architect, Department of Information Technology Services","description":"\n\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 20px; font-family: san-serif;\"><strong>DEPARTMENT OF INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY SERVICES</strong>\n<strong>TECHNOLOGY ARCHITECT</strong>\n<strong>PEROMNES POST LEVEL 5</strong></p>\n\n\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 20px; font-family: san-serif;\"><em>In pursuit of the ideals of excellence and diversity, the University of Pretoria wishes to invite applications for the following vacancy.</em></p>\n\n\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 20px; font-family: san-serif;\"><em>The University of Pretoria's commitment to quality makes us one of the top research Universities in the country and gives us a competitive advantage in international science and technology development.</em></p>\n\n\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 20px; font-family: san-serif;\"><strong>JOB PURPOSE:</strong></p>\n\n\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 20px; font-family: san-serif;\">The purpose of the job is to describe and set the current, preferred and future architecture of all levels of IT infrastructure (e.g. workstations, AV equipment, network equipment, servers, storage, data centres, etc.); software (e.g. operating systems, database management, security, desktop applications, etc.); architecture design principles (e.g. security, information handling, monitoring, access control, integration, standardisation, governance, compliance, etc.) and alignment within the UP environment; as well as research on current and emerging technologies in order to find appropriate technology fit for UP.</p>\n\n\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 20px; font-family: san-serif;\"><strong>RESPONSIBILITIES</strong></p>\n\n\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 20px; font-family: san-serif;\"><strong>The successful candidate's responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:</strong></p>\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>Set and describe architecture through technology roadmaps:\n\t<ul>\n<li>Bring an understanding of the enterprise, business system, business process and industry to the team(s) supporting or interfacing with the application landscape;</li>\n<li>Maintain current knowledge of all relevant technology developments, and seek opportunities to deploy new technologies that benefit UP;</li>\n<li>Map business requirements to technology capability, identify gaps and omissions in the end-to-end solution, and review ongoing and proposed projects to identify opportunities for reuse and process improvement;</li>\n</ul>\n</li>\n<li>Manage the project start architecture process:\n\t<ul>\n<li>Review and integrate all requirements for the application landscape, including functional, security, usability, performance, quality, and operations requirements;</li>\n<li>Review and integrate changes to the technical architecture for the development, execution, and operations environments. Make all final recommendations regarding hardware, network products, system software, and security. Collaborate with the appropriate operations and/or capability development representatives for confirmation and final decisions;</li>\n<li>Identify, clarify, and resolve system development and maintenance activity issues and risks, escalating them as needed;</li>\n<li>Provide technical leadership, including serving as a subject matter expert to Capability Development teams, by evaluating and proposing technical alternatives for resolving business and technology issues;</li>\n<li>Provide technical leadership to resources to meet deadlines and ensure objectives are met, and provide input to business cases for project proposals for architecture-driven technology projects as well as client-driven technology projects;</li>\n</ul>\n</li>\n<li>Technology investigations:\n\t<ul>\n<li>Research and evaluate new technologies, generating possible recommendations for use in supporting the business objectives;</li>\n<li>Research and evaluate technology optimisation opportunities;</li>\n<li>Review and integrate changes to the technical architecture for the development, execution, and operations environments. Make all final recommendations regarding hardware, network products, system software, and security;</li>\n<li>Assess requirements and provide research outputs to the IT organisation regarding business and technology trends, emerging technologies and management needs and concerns;</li>\n</ul>\n</li>\n<li>Manage the security architecture function:\n\t<ul>\n<li>Develop an information security architecture, manage the security architect and ensure that his/her activities enhance the IT security of the University;</li>\n<li>Include security requirements and viewpoint in all architecture artefacts, e.g. technology roadmaps, project start architectures and architecture diagrams;</li>\n<li>Grow the maturity of the security architecture function, and the security maturity of the IT environment;</li>\n</ul>\n</li>\n<li>Run the enterprise architecture process:\n\t<ul>\n<li>Create architecture scope, definition, construction, and execute and define the complete technical infrastructure environment;</li>\n<li>Consult with and develop technical resources for methods, procedures, and standards to use during system development;</li>\n<li>Contribute to the IT strategy and strategic plan;</li>\n<li>Summarise technology-scanning results for input into the IT strategic plan and budget;</li>\n<li>Manage and chair the EA Forum, including documentation, collaboration space, meeting agenda/minutes, deviation processes and communication with the EARB;</li>\n</ul>\n</li>\n<li>Architecture diagrams:\n\t<ul>\n<li>The gathering of relevant information, the drawing, approval, and the publishing of architectural diagrams for all technologies or projects;</li>\n<li>Contextualise the architecture diagrams within the installed-UP environment, and include the architecture diagrams in the project start architecture.</li>\n</ul>\n</li>\n</ul>\n\n\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 20px; font-family: san-serif;\"><strong>MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:</strong></p>\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>Relevant four year degree/Honours in Computer Science, Information Systems, Electronic Engineering, or IT Management Sciences (focusing on Technology Strategy and Architecture), WITH</li>\n<li>A total of six years’ working experience, of which two years should be in management, in the following:\n\t<ul>\n<li>As an Enterprise/Solutions/ Technology Architect, with a sound understanding of the theoretical body of knowledge for Enterprise Architecture (e.g. Zachman, Ross, TOGAF);</li>\n<li>A meta model definition and formulation for Enterprise Architecture;</li>\n<li>Designing, building and operating IT systems (including IT infrastructure and applications);</li>\n<li>A research, or applied research, capacity.</li>\n</ul>\n</li>\n</ul>\n\n\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 20px; font-family: san-serif;\"><strong>REQUIRED COMPETENCIES (SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND BEHAVIOURAL ATTRIBUTES):</strong></p>\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>Knowledge:\n\t<ul>\n<li>A deep understanding of the technology architecture discipline, processes, concepts and best practices;</li>\n<li>Relevant legislation;</li>\n</ul>\n</li>\n<li>Technical competencies:\n\t<ul>\n<li>Deep technical knowledge across various technologies and applications; project/programme management capability;</li>\n</ul>\n</li>\n<li>Behavioural competencies:\n\t<ul>\n<li>Strong strategic planning capabilities (approaches and processes, tools, deliverables);</li>\n<li>Interpersonal skills;</li>\n<li>Independent worker with initiative;</li>\n<li>Innovative thinker;</li>\n<li>Ability to understand what is happening in the industry in general, and product roadmaps</li>\n</ul>\n</li>\n</ul>\n\n\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 20px; font-family: san-serif;\"><strong>ADDED ADVANTAGES AND PREFERENCES:</strong></p>\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>MSc degree – specialising in Computer Science, Information Systems, Electronic Engineering or IT Management Sciences; WITH</li>\n<li>Three years’ experience in:\n\t<ul>\n<li>The use of a modelling tool (e.g. System Architect / ARIS) with advanced training and experience in model extension;</li>\n<li>Business process modelling;</li>\n<li>Applying architecture frameworks (e.g. Zachman, TOGAF);</li>\n<li>Technology environment design and build;</li>\n<li>Research experience in a tertiary environment.</li>\n</ul>\n</li>\n</ul>\n\n\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 20px; font-family: san-serif;\">PLEASE NOTE: All shortlisted candidates may be required to participate in relevant skills assessments as part of the selection process.</p>\n\n\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 20px; font-family: san-serif;\">The annual remuneration package will be commensurate with the incumbent’s level of appointment, as determined by UP policy guidelines.
