The Department studies biology from the smallest to the largest scales; from the structures and functions of biological molecules, through to cells, tissues and organisms and to the entire global ecosystem. The interests of academic staff include all types of living organisms, from bacteria, through the plant and animal kingdoms, to human health and disease.</p>\n\n\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 20px; font-family: san-serif;\"><b>Role Purpose</b></p>\n\n\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 20px; font-family: san-serif;\">Come and join a small team of Learning & Teaching Administrators in the Biosciences department at Durham University. The team is dedicated to supporting academic staff and students by providing a professional and efficient administrative service.</p>\n\n\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 20px; font-family: san-serif;\">You’ll be part of a department carrying out cutting edge and exciting research such as understanding the impacts of global climate change; medical detection by trained sniffer-dogs;</p>\n\n\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 20px; font-family: san-serif;\"><strong>As a Learning & Teaching Administrator in Biosciences, a typical day may include the following:</strong></p>\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>Checking that assessments have been submitted </li>\n<li>Recording and inputting assessment marks </li>\n<li>Responding to a wide range of student and staff queries </li>\n<li>Referring a student to a colleague for welfare or other support </li>\n<li>Supporting a department committee by producing minutes </li>\n<li>Recording and inputting attendance records </li>\n<li>Supporting an academic colleague to produce documents </li>\n<li>Updating information on a student communication site </li>\n</ul>\n\n\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 20px; font-family: san-serif;\"><b>Core responsibilities:</b></p>\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>Provide a responsive and proactive support service for stakeholders. </li>\n<li>Focus on checking stakeholder requirements to ensure the delivery of excellence with the frontline stakeholder experience.</li>\n<li>Respond to service users answering and recording standard queries and bookings for activities and/or events.</li>\n<li>Contribute to the planning of team activities, work and deadlines to ensure the smooth running and timeliness of service.</li>\n<li>Solve day-to-day routine problems and source background information within the role.</li>\n<li>Record data and information accurately and provide reports as required to team members and more experienced staff.</li>\n<li>Operate a booking and enquiry service and process requests finding solutions or escalating queries where necessary.</li>\n<li>Flexible in approach to accommodate the needs of team members and/or service users.</li>\n<li>Assist team members to organise, plan and prepare for events, meetings and activities.</li>\n<li>Liaise with internal and external suppliers, contractors and professional specialists to pass on information.</li>\n<li>Apply professional and regulatory procedures and processes and use of systems.</li>\n<li>Liaise and collaborate with staff in other areas of the organisation to ensure a seamless, smooth and efficient service.</li>\n<li>Resolve queries and requests for information and advice and escalate more specialist and complex queries or issues to more experienced team members.</li>\n</ul>\n\n\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 20px; font-family: san-serif;\"><b>Role responsibilities:</b></p>\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>Work with team members to ensure the smooth running of administrative processes to support people and business activities.</li>\n<li>Apply standard professional and recognised regulatory procedures to process, check and reconcile anomalies within data and information sets.</li>\n<li>Compile, record, store and archive data and information to ensure the accuracy and safety of information.</li>\n<li>Liaise with representatives from other service areas, professional organisations and agencies where necessary.</li>\n<li>Use standard office-based digital systems, tools and equipment to carry out data recording, communications and networking.</li>\n<li>Provide service and support for networks, committees and meetings, to draft and distribute documents and communications in standard professional formats.</li>\n<li>Process and update key business documentation.</li>\n<li>Liaise with internal and external suppliers and specialists with the organisation, planning and delivery of services, activities and events.</li>\n<li>Make venue, catering, travel and/or equipment arrangements for events, meetings and activities.</li>\n<li>Any other reasonable duties.</li>\n</ul>\n\n\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 20px; font-family: san-serif;\"><u><b>Specific role requirements</b></u></p>\n\n\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 20px; font-family: san-serif;\"><b>Working Arrangements</b></p>\n\n\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 20px; font-family: san-serif;\">At Durham we recognise that our staff and students are our greatest asset and we want to support the health and wellbeing of all.
