The position is limited for three years with the option of extension. The period of employment is governed by the Fixed Term Research Contracts Act (Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz-WissZeitVG). The position aims at obtaining further academic qualification (e.g. PhD / habilitation thesis). Balancing family and career is an important issue. The position is generally suitable for candidates seeking part-time employment. Please indicate your request in your application.\n\n\nTasks:\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>curiosity-driven basic research of fundamental mathematical optimization problems in the field of image analysis</li>\n<li>design and analysis of algorithms for solving these problems, exactly or approximatively</li>\n<li>implementation, empirical analysis and comparison of these algorithms with respect to real data</li>\n<li>publication of findings and insights in internationally leading conferences and journals</li>\n<li>strong contributions to teaching in English in the Masters’ Program Computational Modeling and Simulation, esp. by the design and co-supervision of exercise groups and tutorials and, for postdocs with sufficient teaching experience, by own lectures.</li>\n</ul>\n\n\nRequirements: \n\n\n<ul>\n<li>very good university degree and, if applicable, PhD degree in mathematics or computer science or a related discipline</li>\n<li>comprehensive education in mathematics, especially in discrete mathematics and one area of mathematical optimization (e.g. discrete optimization, convex optimization)</li>\n<li>curiosity and strong interest in rigorous methodological research</li>\n<li>teaching experience</li>\n<li>very good programming skills in C or C++</li>\n<li>very good scientific writing skills in English.</li>\n<li>Knowledge of German is not required for this position.</li>\n</ul>\n\n\nApplications from women are particularly welcome.
