font-family: san-serif;\"><b>The Department and role purpose</b></p>\n\n\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 20px; font-family: san-serif;\">The Estates and Facilities Directorate provides a number of essential services to Durham University and is responsible for managing, maintaining and developing the infrastructure and building fabric of the various campuses, including:</p>\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>maintaining and regularly reviewing a maintenance programme which takes account of short, medium and long term needs of all buildings and University grounds;</li>\n<li>implementing the works identified and funded within the various maintenance programmes and operating a system for dealing with day-to day requirements, including the provision of an out-of-hours emergency service;</li>\n<li>providing a professional, technical service to the University for the design, construction and procurement of new buildings and adaptation works to existing buildings;</li>\n<li>identifying and recording the use of space and advising on ways of increasing space utilisation;</li>\n<li>property and asset management;</li>\n<li>acquisition and disposal of built environment related assets;</li>\n<li>procuring and managing utilities and services;</li>\n<li>providing postal, delivery and security arrangements and advice to the University; and</li>\n<li>the delivery of a wide-range of customer-facing services, including: contract management; estates and facilities relationships management; housekeeping and cleaning, business resilience, event management; reception helpdesk; university retail; business support; health and safety; and management information.</li>\n</ul>\n\n\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 20px; font-family: san-serif;\">The Mechanical Building Services Engineer will deliver a professional, customer-focussed mechanical engineering support service to all stakeholders and facilitate the provision of an effective, efficient and reliable mechanical infrastructure, specific to the needs of the University.</p>\n\n\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 20px; font-family: san-serif;\"><strong>Core responsibilities</strong></p>\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>Influence, develop and Implement changes to the mechanical services design processes, techniques and deliverables to ensure the required design philosophy and intent are achieved for one or more service strands or project streams.</li>\n<li>Provide specialist expertise and support with the collection of complex data and information and, interpretation and analysis, in relation to mechanical building services engineering.</li>\n<li>Contribute to development of operational service standards and activities to ensure excellence in the stakeholder experience.</li>\n<li>Collect and analyse stakeholder feedback to help define needs and requirements; translating stakeholder requirements into high quality schemes influencing design and planning decisions on mechanical building services and infrastructure to achieve objectives.</li>\n<li>Internal and external relationship development and partnership working, networking and participation to engage and influence future services and the University reputation.</li>\n<li>Identify and design activities to meet learning objectives and outcomes.</li>\n<li>Maintain an awareness of current policy for University business goals such as widening participation and access, and provision of advice using specialist knowledge.</li>\n<li>Contribute to and lead business meetings, working groups and sub-committees at departmental and operational service levels.</li>\n</ul>\n\n\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 20px; font-family: san-serif;\"><strong>Role responsibilities</strong></p>\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>Responsible for managing mechanical maintenance, improvement and new installation projects from inception to completion. </li>\n<li>Actively participate in all stages of the design development process on capital, minor and refurbishment projects to ensure the required design philosophy, system integration and quality standards for the mechanical services are realised.</li>\n<li>Identify, develop and implement mechanical infrastructure improvement strategies across the Estate to maintain a stable, efficient and resilient mechanical infrastructure to support business continuity and the University’s sustainability aspirations.</li>\n<li>Provide management for the delivery of high-quality estates and infrastructure support services across the University.</li>\n<li>Provide professional advice and technical support to University stakeholders in relation to all aspects of mechanical building services engineering.</li>\n<li>Promote and foster positive and highly collaborative approaches to problem solving and project implementation, helping to motivate, mentor and coach project team members; keeping abreast of legislation, approved codes of practice, industry standards and best practice.</li>\n<li>Act as a point of contact for service colleagues and stakeholders to interpret and resolve complex mechanical infrastructure/building services technical problems.</li>\n<li>Make decisions about the nature and level of problem solving, physical and analytical tools, techniques and protocols to deliver project and service objectives, providing advice and making recommendations for resolutionas appropriate.</li>\n<li>Collaborate with other specialists within the Service and across the University, regarding the use of modelling and analytical tools, methods and standards to deliver integrity and consistency with service delivery.</li>\n<li>Schedule and monitor mechanical design, maintenance and installation works, projects and work streams across the University.</li>\n<li>Provide regular status reports on mechancial building services installations and identify risk management and contingency planning to other service staff, specialists, users and managers.</li>\n<li>Liaise with internal and external agencies, local authorities, industries and visitors, where appropriate.</li>\n<li>Take responsibility for monitoring and updating risk assessments and safety procedures, providing guidance to others where necessary.</li>\n<li>Develop, modify and optimise protocols and methodologies.</li>\n<li>Monitor and report on the performance of mechanical consultants and suppliers providing appropriate feedback to facilitate the review process and achieving optimum performance.</li>\n<li>Develop and maintain the mechanical aspects of the University’s ‘Building Engineering Services Design Guidelines’ applying best practice principles to achieve optimal engineering design solutions.</li>\n<li>Any other reasonable duties.</li>\n</ul>\n\n\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 20px;
