Meanwhile, our Initial Teacher Education programmes have been rated Outstanding by Ofsted in 2011 and 2013.</p>\n\n\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 20px; font-family: san-serif;\">The School of Education is based at the Durham city campus which is the home of our Education Studies degree, the BA in Primary Education, our PGCE degrees and postgraduate programmes.</p>\n\n\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 20px; font-family: san-serif;\"><b>The Role</b></p>\n\n\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 20px; font-family: san-serif;\">Applications are invited for a fixed-term Research Associate appointment as maternity cover from 1<sup>st</sup> April 2022 for 26 weeks or equivalent pro-rata) on a research project funded by the Education Endowment Foundation (EEF) led by Professor Steve Higgins in the School of Education at Durham University.</p>\n\n\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 20px; font-family: san-serif;\">This project is developing the analysis of the evidence of educational interventions currently presented as the EEF Teaching and Learning Toolkit (<a data-mz=\"\" href=\"https://educationendowmentfoundation.org.uk/education-evidence/teaching-learning-toolkit\" rel=\"no-follow\">https://educationendowmentfoundation.org.uk/education-evidence/teaching-learning-toolkit</a> ). The role will involve identifying, screening and data extraction of studies of educational interventions and evaluations. The aim is to extend and update the online database of educational studies for meta-analysis. The successful applicant is expected to contribute to the work of the project team.</p>\n\n\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 20px; font-family: san-serif;\">The post is based in the School of Education, part of the Faculty of Social Sciences and Health at Durham University. The role may involve some travel to the EEF headquarters in London or to other UK Universities to support the training and development of others working on the literature classification and analysis. The post is part of a team working towards better educational outcomes for disadvantaged learners and in understanding the evidence for research-based approaches and in the analysis of impact evaluations in education. The role will involve collaboration across the research team with partner organisations and with part-time staff. Although the role is advertised as full time, requests for flexible working arrangements will be considered.</p>\n\n\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 20px; font-family: san-serif;\">The post holder will report to Professor Steve Higgins.</p>\n\n\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 20px; font-family: san-serif;\"><strong><i>Responsibilities:</i></strong></p>\n\n\n<ul>\n<li><i>To contribute as needed to the development and updating of the EEF Evidence Database.</i></li>\n<li><i>To identify, analyse and extract data about impact of interventions from appropriate research literature.</i></li>\n<li><i>To undertake systematic reviews and literature searches using online databases and journal hand searches to support the development EEF Evidence Database.</i></li>\n<li><i>To understand and convey information which needs careful explanation to the team or group of people through presentations, discussions and meetings which contribute to the production of research reports and publications.</i></li>\n<li><i>To write up results of research work, present information on research progress and outcomes to bodies supervising research in a clear and accurate manner.</i></li>\n<li><i>To analyse or undertake basic research by deciding how best to apply existing methodology according to overall context and objectives.</i></li>\n<li><i>To deal with problems that may affect the achievement of research objectives and deadlines by discussing with the Principal Investigator or Grant-holder and offering creative or innovative solutions.</i></li>\n<li><i>To liaise with research colleagues and make internal and external contacts to develop knowledge and understanding to form relationships for future research collaboration.</i></li>\n<li><i>To contribute to the planning of research projects.</i></li>\n<li><i>To assist in contributing to support student projects on the use of research methods and equipment. </i></li>\n<li><i>To contribute to fostering a collegial and respectful working environment which is inclusive and welcoming and where everyone is treated fairly with dignity and respect.</i></li>\n<li><i>To engage in wider citizenship to support the department and wider discipline.</i></li>\n<li><i>To engage in continuing professional development by attending relevant training and development courses.</i></li>\n</ul>\n\n\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 20px; font-family: san-serif;\"><b>This post is fixed-term for 26 weeks (or longer pro-rata)</b></p>\n\n\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 20px; font-family: san-serif;\">The post-holder is employed to work on research/a research project which will be led by another colleague.
