FIMM is part of the Nordic EMBL Partnership for Molecular Medicine, composed of the European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL) and the centres for molecular medicine in Norway, Sweden and Denmark, and the EU-LIFE Community.\n\n\nFIMM is currently seeking\nLaboratory Technician for sequencing core facility\n\n\nDescription:\n\n\nFIMM Tech Centre Sequencing Unit is a service laboratory providing tailored DNA and RNA analysis services for the scientific community. Our team consist of 13 multidisciplinary experts working together with other core units within FIMM Technology Centre. Sequencing Unit has a long history for delivering NGS and Sanger sequencing services with state-of-the-art technologies. The unit supports research at University of Helsinki and functions as a national and international infrastructure platform for academic researchers.\n\n\nWe currently have an opening for a laboratory technician to support day-to-day operations and assay development. The work requires excellent attention to detail and ability and willingness for constant learning in a rapidly developing field of life sciences. Working experience in the field of genomics is considered an asset.\n\n\nThe primary activities of the position include, but are not limited to:\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>Daily sample preparation workflows from isolated nucleic acids to next generation sequencing (NGS) libraries</li>\n<li>Scientific laboratory support for NGS projects</li>\n<li>Maintenance of laboratory and equipment</li>\n<li>Method and protocol development</li>\n</ul>\n\n\nThe work includes a broad variety of day-to-day laboratory tasks from ordering of reagents to experimental work and data management. The laboratory technician will work independently as well as closely in collaboration with researchers and staff in Sequencing unit and other units of FIMM Tech Centre.\n\n\nQualification and experience:\n\n\nCandidates should have a degree of a laboratory technician, B.Sc. or equivalent in the field of life sciences and proven experience in sequencing technologies and nucleic acid analysis techniques such as DNA/RNA extraction and quality control. Previous experience on NGS and automation is highly valued. The successful candidate is expected to be familiar with good laboratory practices, have excellent problem solving, troubleshooting, and analytical skills, and be able to work independently as well as cooperating harmoniously with members of the team. In addition, the candidate should be fluent in English, have good interpersonal and communication skills as well as a service-minded attitude.\n\n\nSalary &amp; contract:\n\n\nThe salary will commensurate with qualifications based on the university salary system. A contract will be offered initially until the end of 2024 with possible extension beyond this depending on the availability of funding.
