The school is based on strong principles of internationalism, innovation, inspiration and integrity, which together ensure that we have a positive impact on society through our teaching, research and business engagement. In that pursuit, IBSS became the youngest business school to be accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) in 2016, and again, the youngest School to receive EQUIS accreditation in 2018.\n\n\nThe five departments of IBSS are the newly split Accounting and Finance, Economics, Intelligent Operations and Marketing, and Strategic Management and Organizations with over 150 faculty members and more than 5,000 students from over 60 different countries. IBSS delivers a range of undergraduate, postgraduate, MBA, PhD and Executive Education programmes across a range of business disciplines.\n\n\nThe Department of SMO, which encompasses the fields of HRM, International Business, Strategy, and Leadership, is set to become an independent academic unit with the beginning of the 2020/21 academic year, as a result of splitting the original Department of Management. At present, the SMO department has a strong team of 35 academic staff and 9 PhD students, publishing in top journals, such as Management International Review, Journal of Business Research, and R&amp;D Management. Members of the department teach a large number of undergraduate students in business administration, international business with a language, and human resource management programmes as well as postgraduate students enrolled in the MSc Management or the IMBA.\n\n\nRoles &amp; Responsibilities:\n\n\nSupporting its rapid expansion, IBSS now seeks to appoint a Head for the Strategic Management and Organizations Department to join the business school's leadership team. This is an exciting opportunity for a senior academic and established researcher to become part of a young, fast-growing, and internationally recognized institution situated in the heart of one of China’s most innovative and entrepreneurial economic areas.\n\n\nIBSS offers a truly research-conducive environment, a low teaching load, and a range of research support opportunities. Research activities include the publication of research articles, the development of external grant applications, and the presentation of scholarly work at international conferences. Research performance in the School is benchmarked on internationally recognized lists of journal quality such as the Academic Journal Guide (UK) – a.k.a. the ABS list – and the ABDC list (AUS). The target levels on those lists are ABS3/ABDC-A or above.\n\n\nAreas of responsibilities:\n\n\n<ol>\n<li align=\"left\">Strategic leadership and management;</li>\n<li align=\"left\">Academic leadership;</li>\n<li align=\"left\">Managing people and resources.</li>\n</ol>\n\n\nThe Head of Department is responsible for the strategic planning of the department, and is to provide leadership, academic direction and oversight to the department. He/she will oversee the quality assurance process of teaching and assessment, provide faculty development guidance and assess performance criteria as well as direct the department’s external engagement. The Head of Department also assumes budgetary responsibilities.\n\n\nPersonal Attributes\n\n\nThe successful applicant is expected to have developed:\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>A motivational leadership style,</li>\n<li>A solid wide range of managerial skills, and</li>\n<li>Good interpersonal and communication skills.</li>\n</ul>\n\n\nEssential Qualifications/Experience\n\n\nThe successful applicant is expected to have:\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>A PhD degree in Strategy, International Business, Humane Resource Management, Innovation, CSR or a related field, </li>\n<li>Administrative experience, e.g., as Programme Director, Department Head, or Associate Dean,</li>\n<li>At least ten years of teaching/research experience in higher education,</li>\n<li>A significant record of academic publications in excellent international journals,</li>\n<li>Supervised PhD students to completion,</li>\n<li>A successful record of research funding acquisition, and hold the rank of Professor.</li>\n</ul>\n\n\nDesirable Qualifications/Experience\n\n\nThe successful applicant should preferably possess the following attributes:\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>Curriculum design and new programme development experience,</li>\n<li>Teaching and/or research interest in Strategy, International Business, Humane Resource Management, Innovation, CSR etc.</li>\n<li>Engagement with professional community,</li>\n<li>Experience as a leader/manager of an academic unit.</li>\n</ul>\n\n\nCompensation Package\n\n\nMembers of Academic Staff receive generous subsidies for accommodation, travel, children’s education, and medical insurance. A relocation allowance is provided. Non-Chinese passport holders may qualify for multi-year income tax “holidays”, depending on nationality and tax residency.\n\n\nCitizenship and Visa Regulations\n\n\nEmployment at Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University is regulated by Chinese Labour Laws, and must comply with the regulations of the provincial government.
