{"job":{"jobId":2453787,"fk_accountId":null,"fk_organizationId":494,"fk_adminAccountId":null,"title":"CUI Operations Manger","description":"\n\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 20px; font-family: san-serif;\">Job description</p>\n\n\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 20px; font-family: san-serif;\">We have an exciting opportunity for an Operations Manager at the Centre for Ultrastructural Imaging (CUI) at King’s College London. </p>\n\n\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 20px; font-family: san-serif;\"> </p>\n\n\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 20px; font-family: san-serif;\">Reporting to Associate Director, Core Facilities, the postholder will be responsible for all aspects of the operational management of the Centre, including financial oversight, people management, reporting, health and safety, equipment maintenance and business development. </p>\n\n\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 20px; font-family: san-serif;\"> </p>\n\n\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 20px; font-family: san-serif;\">The role will focus on leading a diverse team of research specialists to ensure the efficient operation of the CUI. In addition, the postholder will have expertise in cellular electron microscopy and provide input to project experimental design. They should be familiar with related scientific practices and biological specimen preparation and imaging methods (such as CLEM, FIB-SEM, serial-block face SEM and array tomography). </p>\n\n\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 20px; font-family: san-serif;\"> </p>\n\n\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 20px; font-family: san-serif;\">The role involves the development of workflows and novel approaches for addressing the needs of CUI’s collaborators. The ability to use knowledge and experience to advise on the best practice is an essential part of this post, as well as providing guidance for the CUI staff and facility users. </p>\n\n\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 20px; font-family: san-serif;\"> </p>\n\n\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 20px; font-family: san-serif;\">The role would suit someone who sees opportunities in challenge with a particular strength in operation and people management. </p>\n\n\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 20px; font-family: san-serif;\"> </p>\n\n\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 20px; font-family: san-serif;\">This is a full-time post and will be offered on an indefinite contract </p>\n\n\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 20px; font-family: san-serif;\"> </p>\n\n\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 20px; font-family: san-serif;\"> </p>\n\n\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 20px; font-family: san-serif;\">Key responsibilities</p>\n\n\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 20px; font-family: san-serif;\">• Operational Management of the Centre, providing solutions to maximise efficiency in analytical workflows, strategic priorities and the management of facility resources. Work with the Academic Director and Associate Director of Core Facilities to define strategic priorities and explore opportunities for growth.</p>\n\n\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 20px; font-family: san-serif;\">• Team management of five CUI staff, (two Grade 5 research specialists, Grade 6 Cryo EM specialist, Grade 6 research specialist, Grade 4 Administration and Finance Officer), setting individual and team tasks and planning the delivery of research projects.</p>\n\n\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 20px; font-family: san-serif;\">• Build strong working relationships with CUI staff to support the needs of the Centre along with CUI users across the organisation to ensure the best support to King’s researchers.</p>\n\n\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 20px; font-family: san-serif;\">• Oversee administration of the Centre, including resource management, finances and facility reporting, ensuring efficiencies are identified and implemented. </p>\n\n\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 20px; font-family: san-serif;\">• Responsible for monitoring and maintenance of all major EM equipment.</p>\n\n\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 20px; font-family: san-serif;\">• Ensure that all safety and operational procedures are followed by CUI staff and visitors and associated records are maintained.</p>\n\n\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 20px; font-family: san-serif;\">• Active engagement in method development to improve EM techniques, throughput and data analysis.</p>\n\n\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 20px; font-family: san-serif;\">• Keep up to date with new emerging technologies and advise in strategic purchase and/or placement of novel instrumentation. Liaising with external service providers (e.g. engineers, constructors) to ensure the effective operation of the Centre and minimise disruption to services.</p>\n\n\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 20px; font-family: san-serif;\">• Represent and actively promote the CUI through engagement and networking with the EM community both nationally and internationally. Presenting and sharing advances and developments at internal and external events (e.g., courses, workshops, conferences).</p>\n\n\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 20px; font-family: san-serif;\">• Participate in the good housekeeping of CUI, including the provision of on-call duties such as maintenance of equipment during holidays and outside working hours, and to ensure that their work is performed to the prescribed quality systems.</p>\n\n\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 20px; font-family: san-serif;\"> </p>\n\n\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 20px; font-family: san-serif;\"><em>The above list of responsibilities may not be exhaustive, and the post holder will be required to undertake such tasks and responsibilities as may reasonably be expected within the scope and grading of the post.</em></p>\n\n\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 20px; font-family: san-serif;\"> </p>\n\n\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 20px; font-family: san-serif;\">Skills, knowledge, and experience </p>\n\n\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 20px; font-family: san-serif;\"><strong>Essential criteria</strong></p>\n\n\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 20px; font-family: san-serif;\">1. PhD or equivalent experience in electron microscopy in a basic research setting. </p>\n\n\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 20px; font-family: san-serif;\">2. Strong operational management experience, managing complex resources, health and safety procedures, budgets and reporting. </p>\n\n\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 20px; font-family: san-serif;\">3. Experience of working in a leadership role, with strong people management and influencing skills. </p>\n\n\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 20px; font-family: san-serif;\">4. Excellent communication skills, written and verbal, along with strong interpersonal skills. </p>\n\n\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 20px; font-family: san-serif;\">5. Proactive approach and aptitude for working independently to seek out resolutions and develop collaborative approaches to solve problems. </p>\n\n\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 20px; font-family: san-serif;\">6. Experience working independently in an EM facility setting. </p>\n\n\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 20px; font-family: san-serif;\">7. In-depth working knowledge of current methods and procedures for cellular EM specimen preparation and imaging technology. </p>\n\n\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 20px; font-family: san-serif;\">8. Experience in advance electron microscopy workflows and data analysis. </p>\n\n\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 20px; font-family: san-serif;\">9. Ability to deliver high quality EM support including experimental design, data analysis and interpretation, and preparation/review of manuscripts for publication. </p>\n\n\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 20px; font-family: san-serif;\">10. Experience in delivering training and/or organisation of EM courses and workshops. </p>\n\n\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 20px; font-family: san-serif;\"> </p>\n\n\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 20px; font-family: san-serif;\"><strong>Desirable criteria</strong></p>\n\n\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 20px; font-family: san-serif;\">1. Previous experience with the maintenance and basic troubleshooting of TEMs. </p>\n\n\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 20px; font-family: san-serif;\">2. Previous experience in advanced data analysis workflows. </p>\n\n\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 20px; font-family: san-serif;\">3.
