It has a long history of drawing from an interdisciplinary and qualitative approach to the study of social issues in Hong Kong, China, and Asia more generally.  The 2022 QS World University Ranking rated the Department the 34th among the world’s top 200 universities in the subject of sociology.  The Department offers a range of innovative and engaging taught programmes, including undergraduate major/minor programmes in Sociology, Criminology and Media &amp; Cultural Studies.  In addition to research postgraduate degrees, it also offers two taught postgraduate programmes in Criminology and Media, Culture and Creative Cities. Its faculty, research postgraduate students and post-doctoral fellows, are actively engaged in cutting-edge research and excel in producing excellent scholarly research in the social sciences.  Information about the Department can be obtained at <a data-mz=\"\" href=\"https://sociology.hku.hk/\" rel=\"no-follow\">https://sociology.hku.hk</a>\n\n\nApplicants should possess a Ph.D. degree in Sociology or a closely related discipline, with a strong commitment to research and teaching. They should possess strong academic credentials, outstanding academic leadership capabilities, extensive experience in conducting externally funded and rigorous field-based research, and a distinguished record of scholarship. They should also demonstrate strong abilities in teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate levels, and graduate research mentoring. They will also contribute actively to academic programme development, lead collaborative and interdisciplinary initiatives in research and knowledge exchange, mentor and nurture the next generation of scholars and researchers, and assume high-level service/administrative responsibilities.\n\n\nA highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered, in addition to annual leave and medical benefits. At the current rates, salaries tax does not exceed 15% of gross income. The appointment will attract a contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme, totalling up to 15% of the basic salary.
