In the newly released metrics compiled by Stanford University, more than 200 PolyU scholars ranked among the world’s top 2% most-cited scientists, the 2ndhighest number in Hong Kong.\n\n\nThe Institute for Higher Education Research and Development\n\n\nThe Institute for Higher Education Research and Development (IHERD) will lead, promote, and support the University’s educational research and innovation to achieve better learning outcomes for students. Bridging educational research, innovation, and policy development, IHERD will also enhance the capacity of the University in contributing to the future development of higher education in the region and beyond as a forward-looking thought leader, epically the context of developing Hong Kong as well as the Greater Bay Area into an international innovation and technology hub.\n\n\nIHERD will comprise the Educational Research Centre (ERC) and the Educational Development Centre (EDC). Both centres are independent units with their own Directors, structures and budgets. The Director of IHERD is expected to also serve as the Director of the ERC.\n\n\nJob Functions\n\n\nReporting to the Vice President (Education), the appointee will be required to:\n\n\n(a)   provide leadership to promote and support the University’s educational research and pedagogical innovations; \n\n\n(b)   support the Central Management in devising and implementing strategic initiatives, policies and guidelines on forward-looking educational research/innovations;\n\n\n(c)   promote and enhance the capacity and reputation of the University as a leader in higher education research and innovation, especially in engineering, technology and applied science disciplines;  \n\n\n(d)   oversee the operations and performance of the EDC in addition to leading the ERC;  \n\n\n(e)   manage the strategic allocation of funding and monitor the execution of education-related projects;  \n\n\n(f)   facilitate and monitor the implementation of outcomes of education-related projects in learning and teaching activities; and  \n\n\n(g)   performany other duties as assigned by the Vice President (Education) or his delegate(s) or the Central Management of the University.  \n\n\nThe successful candidate is expected to also serve as a full-time non-temporary Chair Professor or Professor of the University and will hold the concurrent directorship appointments mentioned above which are usually for a term of three years on renewable basis. The appointee is expected to resume his/her substantive position at the end of the directorship appointments.\n\n\nQualifications \n\n\nApplicants should be visionary and inspiring leaders with a strong drive for excellent performance and have: \n\n\n(a)   outstanding academic qualifications and scholarly achievements at Chair Professor / Professor level in an engineering, technology, or applied science discipline and/or in education research/innovation related to such a discipline with evidence of eminent scholarship;\n\n\n(b)   a distinguished reputation as a world-leading researcher, with a strong track record in conducting impactful educational research and developing innovative pedagogies in engineering, technology and applied science disciplines; \n\n\n(c)   a strong record in attracting educational research funding, and proven excellence in high quality research in learning and teaching;  \n\n\n(d)   effective communication, interpersonal and resource management skills and excellent adaptability to changes and challenges;  \n\n\n(e)   substantial knowledge of the higher education environment in the local, regional and/or global contexts; and  \n\n\n(f)   an excellent command of both written and spoken English and preferably Chinese, with fluency in Putonghua being an advantage.  \n\n\nCondition of Service\n\n\nTerms of appointment and remuneration package are negotiable and highly competitive.\n\n\nApplication and Nomination\n\n\nPlease submit application and nomination to MrColin Wong, Managing Partner, OdgersBerndtson, via email at <a data-mz=\"\" href=\"mailto:PolyU-DoIHERD@odgersberndtson.com\" rel=\"no-follow\">PolyU-DoIHERD@odgersberndtson.com</a> or telephone +852 2215 8688.Consideration of applications and nominations will commence on 14 November 2022 until the position is filled.
