With a team of around 27 full-time academic staff, our focus areas are professional communication and applied language studies, and we provide teaching to undergraduate and postgraduate degree programmes. Priority will be given to applicants whose research expertise and teaching experience are within the Department’s key research areas, especially on the intersection between culture, language, and professional workplaces. Other areas of specialisation such as Sociolinguistics, Discourse Analysis, and Mixed-Methods Research will also be strongly considered. Experience in teaching languages such as Spanish, French, or German, and European Studies will be a plus.\n\n\nDuties\n\n\nThe appointee will be required to:\n\n\n(a)   actively conduct research in the Department’s research areas and contribute to the development of its research strengths;  \n\n\n(b)   teach subjects in the Department’s undergraduate and postgraduate degree programmes;  \n\n\n(c)   contribute to the curriculum design and materials development;  \n\n\n(d)   supervise student projects at undergraduate and postgraduate levels (including PhD supervision);  \n\n\n(e)   assist in the administration of the Department; and  \n\n\n(f)   perform any other duties as assigned by the Head of Department or his/her delegates.  \n\n\nQualifications\n\n\nApplicants should have:\n\n\n(a)   a PhD degree in one of the Department’s key research areas;  \n\n\n(b)   post-qualification teaching experience in relevant subjects at tertiary level with a demonstrated record of excellence in teaching (as supported by evidence of performance in teaching);  \n\n\n(c)   an excellent track record of published research, including experience in project-based research and grant applications; and      \n\n\n(d)   excellent English language and communication skills.  \n\n\nConditions of Service\n\n\nA highly competitive remuneration package will be offered. Initial appointment will be on a fixed-term gratuity-bearing contract.  Re-engagement thereafter is subject to mutual agreement.
