Our team of researchers lead key internationally competitive research from molecules to medicines, from patient to policy across a range of therapeutic areas.</p>\n\n\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 20px; font-family: san-serif;\">We are currently seeking to appoint a <strong>Research Assistant in Cancer Research</strong> at the HEO4 level, based on prior experience working in a PC2 laboratory. The research role you will be working in focuses on cancer research, specifically in:</p>\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>managing experimental animals, and working on preclinical cancer models, drug testing, target identification, cell-based experiments and data collection and analysis</li>\n<li>organizing lab inventories and orders</li>\n</ul>\n\n\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 20px; font-family: san-serif;\">The main focus of the <strong>Cancer and Stem Cell Laboratory</strong> is to study how normal stem cells are transformed into cancer stem cells and to develop effective new therapies that specifically target and eradicate malignant stem cells. These cells, which are often resistant to chemotherapy, are now believed to be the engine driving the growth of cancer and the root cause of treatment resistance and relapse.</p>\n\n\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 20px; font-family: san-serif;\"><strong>Your key responsibilities will be to: </strong></p>\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>contribute to high quality publications</li>\n<li>manage laboratory inventories and orders</li>\n<li>present research data at weekly lab meetings</li>\n<li>trains, supervises and guides junior employees and students</li>\n<li>comply with regulatory guidelines (including OGTR and ethics) and the University policies</li>\n<li>participation in weekend and public holiday work where it is required</li>\n<li>travel between the university facilities if needed.</li>\n</ul>\n\n\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 20px; font-family: san-serif;\"><strong>Selection Criteria</strong></p>\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>Honours or Masters degree in a relevant scientific or medical field</li>\n<li><strong>2-3 years</strong> of prior experience in animal disease models is highly desired</li>\n<li>Experience in cell biological methods: cell culture, cell-based assays, western blotting, quantitative qPCR, etc.</li>\n<li>Demonstrated attention to detail, ensuring that data, methods and theories are accurate, of high-quality and accessible to other lab members.</li>\n<li>Ability to accurately record experimental data and the development of new methods and theories.</li>\n<li>Ability to manage time effectively and be reliable and approachable.</li>\n<li>High self-motivation and capability for independent work.</li>\n</ul>\n\n\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 20px; font-family: san-serif;\"><strong>EEO statement</strong></p>\n\n\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 20px; font-family: san-serif;\">At the University of Sydney, our shared values include <a data-mz=\"\" href=\"https://www.sydney.edu.au/about-us/vision-and-values/diversity.html\" rel=\"no-follow\" target=\"_blank\">diversity and inclusion</a> and we strive to be a place where everyone can thrive.
