They work closely with Heads of Department, departmental research leads, and the convenors of research labs and groups. As part of the School senior management team and school operational board, they play a key role in the overall leadership and development of the School.\n\n\nAs Winchester School of Arts (WSA) is a rapidly growing and developing School, particularly in terms of research &amp; enterprise capability and capacity, with exciting plans in place for the expansion and improvement of our estate and research infrastructure, this role is seen as increasingly pivotal in terms of increasing rates of grant application and capture, building impactful strategic partnerships, and recruiting and supporting brilliant researchers. \n\n\nCandidates will:\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>Possess a PhD or clear professional / research equivalence of an exceptionally high-level.</li>\n<li>Be appointable as a Professor attached to one of the School’s three academic departments: Art &amp; Media Technology, Design, and Fashion &amp; Textiles. The appointed candidate would return to their home department of completion of their term of office as Deputy Head of School for Research and Enterprise.</li>\n<li>Be unambiguously committed to EDI and to the fair development of young and early career and PhD researchers, as well as gender equity in research.</li>\n<li>Have a substantial track-record of significant grant capture from across UKRI and the wider research and enterprise funding landscape.</li>\n<li>Have a deep and developing knowledge of the UKRI and wider funding landscape at policy and practice levels.</li>\n<li>Have a research practice of their own (practice, project, or scholarship based) of international standing – including as PI on funded programmes.</li>\n<li>Have significant research leadership experience, including convening interdisciplinary teams set to work on high-impact programmes of work.</li>\n<li>Be a consummate networker, internally and externally, able to bring to the role a powerful set of influential relationships.</li>\n<li>Be great with people, as a colleague, leader, and manager, with demonstrable experience in culture change and development.</li>\n<li>Have deep knowledge of the REF and its ever-changing emphases.</li>\n<li>Have a deep set of insights into art schools and the contemporary research-intensive university - the policy and regulatory environments, as well as the challenges and opportunities they face.</li>\n</ul>\n\n\nThis post is offered on a tenured basis initially for a period of three years, which is extendible up to a maximum of five years.
