We are confident that we are well on our way to establishing ourselves as one of the UK’s world-leading universities in research.</p>\n\n\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 20px; font-family: san-serif;\">Further information about Edinburgh Napier University can be found <a data-mz=\"\" href=\"https://www.napier.ac.uk/about-us/our-schools\" rel=\"no-follow\" target=\"_blank\">here</a>.</p>\n\n\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 20px; font-family: san-serif;\"><strong>The Role</strong></p>\n\n\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 20px; font-family: san-serif;\">This is a great opportunity for an academic or researcher with expertise in any area of Computer Science or related fields where you can add to the work of the experienced teams working in Artificial Intelligence; Data Science; Games Engineering; Software Engineering (see <a data-mz=\"\" href=\"https://www.napier.ac.uk/about-us/our-schools/school-of-computing-engineering-and-the-built-environment/computer-science\" rel=\"no-follow\" target=\"_blank\">here</a>)</p>\n\n\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 20px; font-family: san-serif;\">Areas of desirable expertise include but are not limited to: intelligent agents, machine learning, natural language generation, nature-inspired optimisation, and learning; argumentation and dialogue theory, reinforcement learning; data visualisation, statistical data analysis; games, particularly rendering techniques; empirical software engineering; mining software repositories; compiler design; cloud and edge computing, cyber physical systems; green computing; internet-of-things; micro-service oriented architectures, and secure software development.</p>\n\n\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 20px; font-family: san-serif;\">Application areas of interest include but again are not limited to: industrial scheduling and timetabling problems; medicine, health and social care; malware detection, policy making, robotics; smart energy; biological data, big sensor data; real-time computer vision for facial and body tracking, and real-time 3d simulations using GPU programming, and financial applications.</p>\n\n\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 20px; font-family: san-serif;\">With 30%-time allocation for research, this role will allow you to explore novel and emerging areas of data science, deliver excellent quality research papers and secure substantial external research funding.</p>\n\n\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 20px; font-family: san-serif;\"><strong>As a lecturer, you will be a member of our Computer Science subject group with:</strong></p>\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>A research allowance of at least 30% of your time to build your research – which can be increased further through external funding.</li>\n<li>Support for travel to conferences and to establish collaborations.</li>\n<li>Extensive training and development opportunities through our Human Resources (HR) and Research, Innovation and Enterprise Office (RIE).</li>\n<li>Support for grant applications and post-award running of grants from professional services colleagues in the schools and the Research, Innovation and Enterprise Office (RIE).</li>\n<li>Opportunities to lead and join PhD student supervisory teams.</li>\n<li>Opportunities to contribute to the leadership of the research group.</li>\n</ul>\n\n\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 20px; font-family: san-serif;\">Our ideal candidate must demonstrate enthusiasm for working in a cross-disciplinary manner in fundamental and/or applied research, for developing links with industry and in the development of teaching to enhance the employability of our graduates. A focus for all our academic staff is to maximise networks, build relationships with industry and other external organisations to deliver excellent research publications, strong research income, and knowledge transfer through Knowledge Transfer Partnerships with industrial partners.
