The project is entitled 'Investigating Fictional Representations of Child Sexual Abuse in Contemporary Culture: Myths and Understanding (CSAReps)' (2024-2028). The School of English, Drama and Film is in the top 50 English departments in the QS World Rankings 2023, and hosts a number of state-of-the-art externally funded interdisciplinary research projects and a thriving community of early career researchers. The fellow will also have the opportunity to collaborate with colleagues in UCD's School of Psychology, including Dr Brendan Rooney's cutting-edge Media and Entertainment Psychology Lab.</p>\n\n\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 20px; font-family: san-serif;\"><strong>About the project:</strong></p>\n\n\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 20px; font-family: san-serif;\">CSAReps examines how the critical issue of child sexual abuse (CSA) is represented in fictional works (e.g. novels, films, television series) across a range of key contemporary genres (including crime, horror and young adult). And it undertakes a series of multi-method audience response studies to investigate the ways in which these works affect their audiences (e.g. using questionnaires, focus groups, and interviews). The project's interdisciplinary framework draws on theories and techniques from literary criticism, film and television studies, cognitive and empirical literary and cultural studies, medical humanities, media and cognitive psychology and media studies. It also entails close collaborations with CSA survivors, support professionals who work with survivors and academics across a range of relevant disciplines internationally.</p>\n\n\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 20px; font-family: san-serif;\">The project seeks to recruit an exceptional scholar who is trained in conducting entertainment media audience studies and/or mixed method studies with stakeholder groups, and also ideally has experience of working with vulnerable research participants. The appointed candidate will be employed as a full-time researcher dedicated to completing specific work-packages and tasks on the project.</p>\n\n\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 20px; font-family: san-serif;\"><strong>In addition to the Principal Duties and Responsibilities listed below, the successful candidate will carry out a number of other duties specific to this project, including but not limited to:</strong></p>\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>Design and conduct mixed method studies of how CSA survivor, stakeholder and general public audiences engage with CSA fictions, including preparing ethics protocols, collecting and analysing qualitative and quantitative data, and writing up results</li>\n<li>Contribute psychology expertise to support the development of the project's conceptual framework and methodologies</li>\n<li>Carry out some textual analysis of the project's primary cultural texts (some project-specific training will be provided)</li>\n<li>Disseminate research findings through international conference papers and high-quality publications, and through web and media channels and public engagement events</li>\n<li>Facilitate the interdisciplinary work of the project, including its engagement with and academic and non-academic collaborators</li>\n<li>Contribute to the research administration of the project, including (but not limited to) research data management; maintaining relevant project documentation; project report writing; scheduling and managing budgets; organising academic and public events</li>\n</ul>\n\n\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 20px; font-family: san-serif;\">This is an academic research role, where you will conduct a specified programme of research supported by research training and development under the supervision and direction of a Principal Investigator.</p>\n\n\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 20px; font-family: san-serif;\">The primary purpose of the role is to further develop your research skills and competences, including the processes of publication in peer-reviewed academic publications, the development of funding proposals, the mentorship of graduate students along with the opportunity to develop your skills in research led teaching.</p>\n\n\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 20px; font-family: san-serif;\"><strong>In addition to the mandatory CV/Resume listed on the online application system, candidates must include:</strong></p>\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>Within the cover letter, please include a concise statement of your motivation in applying for the project and a brief outline of a hypothetical contribution you could make to it (500 words).
