The College implements an innovative integrated, Problem-Based Learning (PBL) curriculum, promoting small group and self-directed learning. The language of instruction is English. Hamad Medical Cooperation (HMC) and its affiliated hospitals, and Primary Health Care centers (PHCC) in Qatar are the primary clinical training facilities of the College.</b></b></b></b></p>\n\n\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 20px; font-family: san-serif;\"><b><u>BASIC FUNCTION AND RESPONSIBILITY</u></b></p>\n\n\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 20px; font-family: san-serif;\">Support and maintain the University’s national and international reputation for excellence in teaching and research, and thus positively participate in the overall contribution of the Medical College and Qatar University at large.</p>\n\n\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 20px; font-family: san-serif;\"><strong>Duties & Responsibilities</strong></p>\n\n\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 20px; font-family: san-serif;\"><b><u>DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES</u></b></p>\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>Contributes in building and enhancing an innovative College of Medicine for the state of Qatar.</li>\n<li>Strong commitment to teaching, with proficiency in teaching, in the relevant field for medical students.</li>\n<li>Contributes to the enhancement and development of other curricular activities.</li>\n<li>Promotes collaborative and interdisciplinary research in areas of priority for the medical college.</li>\n<li>Fosters a supportive and mentoring environment for students.</li>\n<li>Fosters academic and interdisciplinary research links with the relevant departments and centers at the University, being a member of one of the 3 research divisions: center for translational molecular medicine, public health and medical education.</li>\n<li>Promotes and communicates the work of the College to the public through a variety of community outreach activities, including workshops, lectures, publications, conferences, secondary school visits etc.</li>\n<li>Participates in the formulation and implementation of the College’s strategic plan and mission in alignment with the strategic plan and vision and mission of the University.</li>\n<li>Other duties as assigned</li>\n</ul>\n\n\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 20px; font-family: san-serif;\"><strong>Qualifications</strong></p>\n\n\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 20px; font-family: san-serif;\"><b><u>QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE</u></b></p>\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>PhD degree (or equivalent for clinical specialties*) in the relevant discipline from a recognized and accredited university.</li>\n<li>Medical qualification/degree (MD, MBBS, MBBCh) is preferred.</li>\n<li>Strong background and demonstrated excellence in teaching of the relevant field in a medical college, preferably in an innovative integrated curriculum and using Problem-Based Learning (PBL) strategy.</li>\n<li>Experience and/or scholarship in ‘medical education’ is preferred.</li>\n<li>A strong record of relevant research experience backed with a strong and consistent track record of research productivity. </li>\n<li>Ability to work effectively in a multi-cultural environment.</li>\n<li>Excellent verbal and written communication skills.</li>\n<li>Effective interpersonal and administrative skills.</li>\n<li>Excellence in interpersonal behaviors and commitment to effective team-work collaboration with colleagues.</li>\n<li>Proficiency in English and Arabic (both written and verbal) is preferred.</li>\n</ul>\n\n\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 20px; font-family: san-serif;\"><b>For clinical specialties (additional to the MedicalDegree)</b> :</p>\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>Board certified in the relevant clinical specialty (American, Canadian etc)</li>\n<li>Royal College Membership/Fellowship in the relevant clinical specialty (MRCP, FRCS etc)</li>\n<li>Arab Board in the relevant clinical specialty</li>\n</ul>\n\n\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 20px; font-family: san-serif;\"><strong>Required Documents</strong></p>\n\n\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 20px; font-family: san-serif;\"><b><u>Academic:</u></b></p>\n\n\n<ol>\n<li>Current Curriculum Vitea.</li>\n<li><b>Cover letter.</b></li>\n<li><b>Teaching, research, and service philosophy.</b></li>\n<li><b>Three referees’ contact information (physical and email addresses as well their telephones contact).</b></li>\n<li><b>Copy of highest earned credential (transcript of highest degree if graduated from an institution where course work was completed. The program provides an advanced interdisciplinary understanding and in-depth knowledge of issues related to GCC countries, and advances a level of scholarship on Gulf issues that is much-needed at this time.</p><p>QU stands as the top supplier of graduates to the labor market -- its graduates are the most-sought-after by employers across the public and private sectors in Qatar. </p><p> </p><p>Research is an integral part of the academic environment at QU and is bolstered by an ambitious five-year roadmap addressing national priorities and listing four priority research areas -- Energy, Environment and Resource Sustainability; Social Change and Identity; Population, Health and Wellness; and Information, Communication and Technologies (ICT). The University won more than US$17m in competitive research grants in 2017.</p><p> </p><p>QU’s interdisciplinary efforts have engendered a number of award-winning projects and critical findings on issues relevant to the society such as lifelike prosthetic hands, social robots in autism therapy, robotic endoscopy for early detection of stomach cancer, state-of-the-art connected vehicles technology that contributes to addressing road safety and driving challenges in Qatar and beyond, to name a few.</p><p>QU plays a pivotal role in promoting research on the marine environment, atmospheric science and human health, the development of biofuels using microalgae, carbon dioxide sequestration, energy efficient systems and smart buildings, Qatar solar map, and cloud cooling system for World Cup 2022 stadiums.</p><p> </p><p>Additionally, QU boasts a unique marine research vessel, “Janan”. The vessel launched a new era of research at the University and provides invaluable opportunities for students of biological and environmental sciences and marine science to conduct environmental studies and research in the waters of Qatar and the Gulf region.</p><p>One of the University’s key research initiatives -- Qatar Biofuel Project, the only one of its kind in the region -- aims at finding solutions for affordable, sustainable biofuels specifically for use by the airline industry.</p><p> </p><p>Community engagement is an area which is at the heart of QU’s mission and vision. The University prides itself on the quality of its students and alumni, and is committed to ensuring that campus life is an enriching environment for encouraging academic excellence, volunteerism, civic responsibility and leadership. Its Alumni Association brings together 40,000 alumni, current students and Qatari society.</p><p> </p><p>Programs such as Al Bairaq, Life is Engineering Project, Gasna, and the Annual Computing Contest are also aimed at raising school students’ awareness of their future role in contributing to the country’s development.
