It may be noted that English is the working language and the primary medium of instruction at UM.\n\n\nThe Department of Economics of the Faculty of Social Sciences is inviting applications for the position of Assistant Professor in Economics. The Department of Economics is a growing academic unit with excellent prospects whose goal is to excel in learning and research in economics. The department currently offers a wide range of courses leading to B.Soc.Sc, M.Soc.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees. Faculty members actively engage in research with particular focus on econometrics, macroeconomics, microeconomic theory, public economics, and economic growth. The department is highly recognized among universities in the region, evident by some recent ranking exercises. For this position, we are interested in applicants who specialize in macroeconomics, especially in growth and development. While applicants must be fluent in English, ability to speak Chinese may be considered an asset, though it is not a prerequisite for the appointment.\n\n\nThe selected candidate is expected to assume duty by early 2024.\n\n\nRemuneration\n\n\nA taxable annual remuneration starting from MOP828,100 (approximately USD102,230) will be commensurate with the successful applicants’ academic qualification and relevant professional experience. The current local maximum income tax rate is 12% but is effectively around 5% - 7% after various discretionary exemptions.
