{"job":{"jobId":2497613,"fk_accountId":null,"fk_organizationId":494,"fk_adminAccountId":null,"title":"Research Assistant x 2 (Gene Therapy)","description":"\n\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 20px; font-family: san-serif;\">Job description</p>\n\n\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 20px; font-family: san-serif;\">Professor Chris Shaw is seeking to appoint two Gene Therapy Animal Research Assistants.</p>\n\n\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 20px; font-family: san-serif;\">The successful candidates will be part of a team testing viral vector gene therapy reagents aimed at treating amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) and fronto-temporal dementia (FTD) on a commercially funded project. The aim of the project is to optimise the dose and delivery of gene supplement and knock-down vectors in cellular and animal models of disease as proof of concept and efficacy for potential clinical application. Working with Professor Shaw the candidates will join a team of technicians and post-doctoral scientists analysing cells and tissues transduced with plasmid and vector constructs and quantify the effects on target gene expression. </p>\n\n\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 20px; font-family: san-serif;\">For <em>in vivo</em> work the candidate will take care of different mouse colonies from breeding to sacrifice stage (including behavioural phenotyping studies), harvest and prepare tissues for histological sectioning, staining, imaging and quantitative analyses. In vivo work will be conducted over two different sites (Denmark Hill and Waterloo Campus). All experiments will be undertaken at a very high standard and all data treated with complete confidentiality. </p>\n\n\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 20px; font-family: san-serif;\">Salary will be determined and agreed based on the evidence of experience the candidates provide as part of the application and interview process. </p>\n\n\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 20px; font-family: san-serif;\">The candidates will join a research group based within the UK Dementia Research Institute (DRI) centre that is embedded within the Department of Basic and Clinical Neuroscience at King’s College London (<strong><a data-mz=\"\" href=\"https://www.kcl.ac.uk/jobs/www.kcl.ac.uk/ioppn/depts/bcn/dri/lab-groups\" rel=\"no-follow\">www.kcl.ac.uk/ioppn/depts/bcn/dri/lab-groups</a></strong>) within the Maurice Wohl Clinical Neuroscience Institute on the Denmark Hill campus. The DRI is a national consortium focused on cutting-edge dementia research funded by the Medical Research Council, Alzheimer’s Society and Alzheimer’s Research UK (<strong><a data-mz=\"\" href=\"https://www.kcl.ac.uk/jobs/www.ukdri.co.uk\" rel=\"no-follow\">www.ukdri.co.uk</a>)</strong></p>\n\n\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 20px; font-family: san-serif;\">Both positions will be offered on full-time, fixed term contracts until 31st December 2024.</p>\n\n\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 20px; font-family: san-serif;\">Key responsibilities</p>\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>Perform laboratory work to optimise the efficiency of our preclinical studies. </li>\n<li>Deliver high-quality data from our preclinical studies including: </li>\n<li>Undertake rodent colony care (daily monitoring of pups, juvenile and adults), breeding and genotyping, performing licensed procedure as appropriate, </li>\n<li>Undertake rodent behavioural studies (mainly motor deficit phenotyping) </li>\n<li>Optimise perfusion, harvesting, fixation and sectioning of animal tissues, </li>\n<li>Image tissues using slide scanning and confocal microscopes, </li>\n<li>Undertake image analysis using advanced analytical software tools. </li>\n<li>Availability and willingness to work some Weekends and Bank Holidays. </li>\n</ul>\n\n\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 20px; font-family: san-serif;\"><em>The above list of responsibilities may not be exhaustive, and the post holder will be required to undertake such tasks and responsibilities as may reasonably be expected within the scope and grading of the post.</em> </p>\n\n\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 20px; font-family: san-serif;\">Skills, knowledge, and experience</p>\n\n\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 20px; font-family: san-serif;\"><strong>Essential criteria</strong> </p>\n\n\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 20px; font-family: san-serif;\">1. BSc and/or MSc in Neuroscience or equivalent biological field </p>\n\n\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 20px; font-family: san-serif;\">2. Hold or Obtain a Home Office Personal Animal License </p>\n\n\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 20px; font-family: san-serif;\">3. Experience in genotyping or in rodent colony maintenance </p>\n\n\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 20px; font-family: san-serif;\">4. Expertise in animal tissue processing and immunohistochemistry </p>\n\n\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 20px; font-family: san-serif;\">5. Experience in microscopy </p>\n\n\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 20px; font-family: san-serif;\">6. Ability to work independently and within a team </p>\n\n\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 20px; font-family: san-serif;\">7. Administrative skills for careful record keeping </p>\n\n\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 20px; font-family: san-serif;\">8. Conscientious and organised </p>\n\n\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 20px; font-family: san-serif;\">9. Ability to time manage appropriately </p>\n\n\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 20px; font-family: san-serif;\">10. Knowledge of adeno associated viral (AAV) vector gene therapy </p>\n\n\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 20px; font-family: san-serif;\">2.
