The centre brings together interdisciplinary researchers using stable isotope methods, particularly to address environmental and ecological problems. WABC has a long-term collaboration in ecological and water-related studies with mining companies and governmental departments in Western Australia. The current ARC Linkage project is funded by the Australian Research Council and the industrial partner Rio Tinto Iron Ore. This project aims to comprehensively explore the dynamics of soil moisture and groundwater recharge and assess vegetation response on floodplains in the semi-arid region of Pilbara.\n\n\nAbout the opportunity\n\n\nYou will undertake scientific research in the area of the project entitled “Unsaturated zone functioning in a semi-arid flash flood driven climate” funded by the Australian Research Council and Rio Tinto Iron Ore. The study is focused on the dynamics of soil moisture and its contribution to groundwater recharge respective to hydrological regimes and weather patterns.\n\n\nYou will also be expected to design and manage specific experiments, maintain field observation stations, collect samples, install various probes and lysimeters, coordinate the logistical side of the field trips, and maintain a good professional relationship with the industrial partner. You will organise and operate databases and extracting large datasets.
