{"job":{"jobId":2497946,"fk_accountId":null,"fk_organizationId":577,"fk_adminAccountId":null,"title":"Palaeoenvironmental Technician","description":"\n\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 20px; font-family: san-serif;\"><strong>Technical Staff (Geography & Environmental Science)</strong></p>\n\n\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 20px; font-family: san-serif;\"><strong>Location</strong>: Highfield Campus\n<strong>Salary</strong>: £29,605 to £33,966 Per annum\nFull Time Fixed Term for 2 years\n<strong>Closing Date:</strong> Thursday 23 November 2023\n<strong>Interview Date: </strong> To be confirmed\n<strong>Reference</strong>: 2503623WR</p>\n\n\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 20px; font-family: san-serif;\">The <a data-mz=\"\" href=\"https://www.southampton.ac.uk/about/faculties-schools-departments/school-of-geography-and-environmental-science\" rel=\"no-follow\">School of Geography and Environmental Science</a> seeks a two year fixed term, full time, laboratory technician to join the schools’ technical team to support Palaeoenvironmental research, and to contribute to teaching and knowledge exchange/enterprise activities in Geography and Environmental Science.</p>\n\n\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 20px; font-family: san-serif;\">Working in our refurbished laboratory suite, you will be expected to: Conduct the day-to-day running of laboratories; To plan and oversee the provision of specialist technical support in Palaeoenvironmental Research for defined research or consultancy projects; To carry out a range of tests such as extraction of ancient DNA and fossil material (for example pollen, diatoms, chironomids, tephra). Part of the work will be aligned with a NERC funded project on recovery pathways for lake ecosystems, led by <a data-mz=\"\" href=\"https://www.southampton.ac.uk/people/5x2mtx/professor-pete-langdon\" rel=\"no-follow\">Prof. Pete Langdon</a>, and the project work may include fieldwork opportunities, and working with the wider research team. </p>\n\n\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 20px; font-family: san-serif;\">You should have an interest in, and experience of, Palaeoenvironmental Research, Quaternary Science, Biological Science or related laboratory work. Interests in sedimentary ancient DNA and fossil proxies (for example pollen, diatoms, chironomids, tephra) would be beneficial.
