Founded in 1832, the College is based in Durham Castle, a World Heritage Site. University College is home to 1100 undergraduate and 500 postgraduate students; over 500 of these live in college accommodation. The student community, organised into the Junior and Middle Common Rooms (JCR & MCR), is heavily engaged in more than 30 clubs and societies and led by two dedicated Executive Committees of student leaders. The Senior Common Room (SCR) includes more than 300 colleagues formally engaged with the College, many of whom actively participate in the life of Castle. The College holds a vibrant calendar of events and activities including weekly chapel services and formal dinners during term, alongside a wide range of academic, social, spiritual and charity events and volunteering programmes. The college has two historic chapels which are both consecrated, one dating to the foundation of the Castle (the Norman Chapel) and a second dating to the 16<sup>th</sup> century (the Tunstall Chapel), with the former undergoing a £2.6m conservation and interpretation project. The Chaplain serves on the college Principal's leadership team which includes the Vice Principal, Assistant Principal, College Operations Manager, Curator, Alumni Coordinator, and Food and Beverage Manager among others. University College endeavours to expand diversity and strengthen inclusion within our living learning community. To that end, we strongly encourage applicants from underrepresented or marginalized backgrounds to apply for positions in our community.</p>\n\n\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 20px; font-family: san-serif;\">In addition to the Ministerial and Pastoral responsibilities, the University College Chaplain will have academic responsibilities as the Solway Fellow in the Department of Theology and Religion. The Solway Fellowship was established in 1938 by Miss Ursula Mary Davis in memory of her father, the late Revd John Roland Davis for the study of Christianity generally and especially the study of Christianity towards modern social conditions. The successful applicant will be expected to actively undertake postdoctoral research within the Department of Theology and Religion. Symbolic of its international approach, the university welcomes over 4,500 international students from 156 countries worldwide.</p><p> </p><p>Durham University attracts around 17,500 students of all levels. Roughly 21 per cent of its student body are of non-UK origin, and with staff and students combined, around 150 countries and nationalities are represented.</p><p> </p><p>The university is made up of three faculties: arts and humanities, science and social science, and health. It comprises 16 colleges with 25 departments and schools that come together to offer over 200 undergraduate and 130 postgraduate courses, as well as research programmes.</p><p> </p><p>The Durham University estate is spread across two campuses and spans around 227 hectares of land. The estate is home to part of a UNESCO world heritage site (in recognition of Durham’s historical and architectural importance) and comprises several listed buildings,</p><p>The main campus is in the city of Durham, where 14 of the 16 colleges and most of the academic schools are located.
