The position is in the Department of Philosophy, History and Art Studies.\n\n\nThe position is connected to the fund of Irma and Kaarlo Koskimies, which, in accordance with the will of its founders, has long supported research on the history of Finland at the University of Helsinki, and especially researchers in the early career stages of the field. The scholarship committee of the Koskimies fund handles the selection for the position, chaired by Professor Laura Kolbe.\n\n\nThe applicant must have the right to complete a degree in a doctoral program at the University of Helsinki, and the applicants ongoing dissertation project must deal with the history of Finland. Both those who have just started their dissertation and those who have made further progress can apply. The length of the employment relationship is affected by how much funding the person has already received for their research topic and how far along the dissertation project is.\n\n\nThe position includes teaching or administrative duties (no more than 5% of working hours).\n\n\nSELECTION CRITERIA\n\n\nA master's degree in history or another suitable field is required for candidates. In addition, based on the application documents and a possible interview, the applicant's ability, and motivation to complete a doctoral degree and research work on the history of Finland will be assessed.\n\n\nThe applicant must have sufficient language skills in terms of his own research topic.\n\n\nThe University of Helsinki is committed to promoting equality and preventing discrimination in all its operations. In addition, the appointee will be paid a salary component based on personal performance. The starting salary will be ca. 2500-3300 euros/month, depending on the appointee’s qualifications and experience.
