Functional precision medicine represents a new frontier in oncology, where the functionality of a proposed treatment is tested as much as possible in cancer patient companion models, prior to prescribing the best performing drug(s) for a particular patient. Functional precision medicine enables prioritisation among approved therapies, and drug repurposing, i.e. the use of already approved drugs for the treatment of new cancer types, and also enables the design of drug combinations consisting of drugs that are individually approved but not previously used together.\n\n\nWe now open a PhD position where you will be part of a team where we launch a clinical trial on precision medicine, and where we make use of colon cancer lab cultivated cells, obtained directly from patients, for therapy selection. Specifically, the appointed PhD candidate will take in laboratory cultivation, including optimisation of cultivation methods, robotisation of drug exposure, and analyses for readouts of therapy responses.\n\n\nThe PhD position is funded by Samarbeidsorganet. You will work together with a team of clinicians, bioinformaticians and cell lab biology researchers, including both senior researchers, post doc researchers, and other PhD candidates.\n\n\nThe project is part of the <a data-mz=\"\" href=\"https://www.matrix-fkb.no/\" rel=\"no-follow\">MATRIX centre</a>. We will make use of protocols developed in our PRESORT-project, a collaboration between NTNU, St Olavs hospital and Sintef, funded by The Research Council of Norway (Forskningsrådet).\n\n\nThe PhD project will be central to three clinical trials currently planned, named COSENSE-1, COSENSE-2 and COSENSE-3. All three trials are designed to be prospective trials, with patient inclusion starting 2024.\n\n\nYour immediate leader is associate professor Åsmund Flobak\n\n\nDuties of the position\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>Lab cultivation of patient derived cancer cells, obtained from surgical operating theatres and through ultrasound guided needle biopsies</li>\n<li>Drug exposure to lab cultivated cells and further develop already established protocols</li>\n<li>Collect  and analyse experimental molecular markers, including genomics and transcriptomics, for studying therapy responses</li>\n</ul>\n\n\nRequired selection criteria\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>You must have a professionally relevant background in clinical medicine (MD)</li>\n<li>You must have a strong academic background from your previous studies and an average grade from the master's degree program, or equivalent education, which is equal to B or better compared with NTNU's grading scale. If you do not have letter grades from previous studies, you must have an equally good academic basis.
