We are a dynamic and growing research group focused on understanding the biology of ageing and developing interventions to improve healthspan and quality of life.</p>\n\n\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 20px; font-family: san-serif;\">Appointments will be made on a 1 Year contract basis in the first instance, with the possibility of extension.</p>\n\n\n<ul>\n</ul>\n\n\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 20px; font-family: san-serif;\">Purpose of the Post</p>\n\n\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 20px; font-family: san-serif;\">We are seeking a highly motivated Research Assistant ideally with experience in <em>C. elegans</em> and molecular biology to join our team. The successful candidate will work on a project aimed at developing interventions to improve human healthspan, using <em>C. elegans</em> models. The ideal candidate will have experience with\n<strong>the following techniques:</strong></p>\n\n\n<ul>\n<li><em>C. elegans</em> handling and maintenance</li>\n<li>Genetics and molecular biology techniques (PCR, cloning, gene expression analysis)</li>\n<li>Microscopy and imaging techniques</li>\n<li>Data analysis and interpretation</li>\n</ul>\n\n\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 20px; font-family: san-serif;\"><strong>Main Duties and Responsibilities</strong></p>\n\n\n<ol>\n<li>Work independently and as part of a team to design and execute experiments to investigate the molecular mechanisms of ageing and potential interventions using C. elegans as a model organism</li>\n<li>Conduct lifespan assays and physiological assays (e.g., locomotion assays, feeding assays, stress assays) to characterize the effects of ageing interventions</li>\n<li>Use microscopy and imaging techniques to monitor C. elegans phenotypes and perform histological analysis</li>\n<li>Conduct bioinformatics analysis of transcriptomic, proteomic, and genomic data to identify candidate genes and pathways involved in ageing and ageing interventions</li>\n<li>Use statistical analysis software (e.g., R) to analyze and interpret data</li>\n<li>Contribute to the preparation of scientific manuscripts and presentations based on research findings</li>\n<li>Maintain accurate records of experimental procedures, results, and conclusions</li>\n<li>Help train and supervise undergraduate students, new lab members, and interns in laboratory techniques and procedures</li>\n<li>Stay up-to-date with the latest advances in ageing research and contribute to lab meetings and discussions</li>\n<li>Help maintain laboratory equipment and supplies</li>\n<li>Any other duties as assigned by the Reporting Manager</li>\n</ol>\n\n\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 20px; font-family: san-serif;\"><b>Qualifications</b></p>\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>Bachelor's or Master's degree in biology, genetics, or a related field</li>\n<li>Minimum of 1 year of experience working with <em>C. elegans</em> or other model organisms</li>\n<li>Strong knowledge of genetics and molecular biology techniques</li>\n<li>Experience with microscopy and imaging techniques</li>\n<li>Experience with bioinformatics analysis, including transcriptomic and genomic data analysis, would be beneficial – but training can be provided.</li>\n<li>Familiarity with statistical analysis software (e.g., R) is desirable</li>\n<li>Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail</li>\n<li>Resourceful, independent, able to learn fast, and work well with others in a team</li>\n<li>Meticulous in record and inventory keeping with excellent organizational skills</li>\n<li>Good written and verbal communication skills</li>\n</ul>\n\n\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 20px; font-family: san-serif;\">Application</p>\n\n\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 20px; font-family: san-serif;\">Remuneration will be commensurate with the candidate’s qualifications and experience.
