The Rackham lab focuses on analysing transcriptomic and epigenetic data in order to understand cell fate control during development, differentiation and disease. We are looking for a highly motivated candidate with expertise in computational methods applied to biological problems. The successful applicant will work in a dynamic, collaborative environment on developing and applying computational approaches to investigate cell fate decisions.</p>\n\n\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 20px; font-family: san-serif;\">The selected candidate will be closely involved in the development and direction of this project, allowing them to align their own interests with those of the group. The Rackham lab has a strong track record in the development and deployment of high-impact research, publishing in well-respected journals, spinning-out companies and working internationally. Our group strives to offer an exciting and supportive work environment in which early career scientists can develop.</p>\n\n\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 20px; font-family: san-serif;\">This research study will focus on how to exploit large volumes of single-cell RNA sequencing in order to predictably control the function of human cells. This project will involve the curation and deployment of large biological datasets, development of new computational tools and close collaboration with wet-lab scientists. It is an exciting time in cell biology as both the volume of data and the maturity of A.I. have opened the possibility for new tools and technologies. The applicant should have expertise in computational biology and curiosity for solving complex biological questions through the application of algorithms.</p>\n\n\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 20px; font-family: san-serif;\">Southampton is one of the best places in the UK for biological and biomedical teaching and research. </p>\n\n\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 20px; font-family: san-serif;\">The work will take place at the main University campus, in Building 85, which was recently constructed (2008; £47M) to house Biological Sciences researchers and those who conduct multidisciplinary research in any aspect of life sciences, as well as Southampton General Hospital. The location of Southampton makes it the perfect gateway to the south coast of England, offering access to city living and both the coast and countryside.
