A Nash equilibrium is a situation where no player can increase their payoff by unilaterally deviating. Ultimately our target is to develop new approaches that will enhance our understanding of equilibrium computation, the most fundamental problem in Algorithmic Game Theory. The project will be focused around three general classes of games (Bimatrix Games, Polymatrix Games, and Bayesian Games) and the goal will be to design efficient polynomial-time algorithms for approximate equilibria, or provide appropriate inapproaximability lower bounds, e.g., PPAD-hardness.
\n\n\n
Person specification:
\n\n\n
The applicant should have the following qualifications.
\n\n\n
Essential Qualifications:
\n\n\n
\n
A PhD (or to be close to completion of a PhD) in computer science, or some other discipline related to the topics of the proposal (e.g., mathematics, economics, operations research etc), with a focus on theory.
\n
A proven track record of research in the area, ideally attested by publications in top venues in theoretical computer science, economics, operations research, or the intersection of economics and computation.
\n
A solid understanding of algorithms and computational complexity.
\n
Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
\n
\n\n\n
Desirable qualifications:
\n\n\n
\n
Research experience with one or multiple of the topics of the proposal, namely auctions, competitive markets of fair division.
\n
A good understanding of algorithms and complexity for total search problems.
\n
Familiarity with mathematical techniques for proving existence theorems (e.g., fixed points, topological lemmas, or potential arguments).
\n
\n\n\n
In return we offer a highly competitive rewards and benefits package including:
\n\n\n
\n
Generous annual leave entitlement
\n
Training and Development opportunities
\n
Pension Scheme with generous employer contribution
\n
Various schemes including Cycle to Work, Season Ticket Loans and help with the cost of Eyesight testing.
\n
Free parking
\n
\n\n\n
The post is based in Egham, Surrey where the College is situated in a beautiful, leafy campus near to Windsor Great Park and within commuting distance from London.
\n\n\n
For an informal discussion about the post, please contact Argyrios Deligkas, on Argyrios.Deligkas@rhul.ac.uk for more details.
\n\n\n
For queries on the application process the Human Resources Department can be contacted by email at: recruitment@rhul.ac.uk
\n\n\n
Please quote the reference: 1123-478
\n\n\n
Closing Date: 23:59, 22 November 2023
\n\n\n
Interview Date: 28 November – 01 December 2023
\n\n\n
Further details: Job Description & Person Specification
\n\n\n
The university has adopted hybrid working for some roles therefore some remote working may be possible for this role.
\n\n\n
Royal Holloway is committed to equality, diversity and inclusion (EDI), and encourages applications from all people regardless of age, disability, gender, marital status, parental status, race, religion or belief, sexual orientation, or trans status or history.
