{"job":{"jobId":2499819,"fk_accountId":null,"fk_organizationId":24052,"fk_adminAccountId":null,"title":"Archivist, Arab Center for the Study of Art","description":"\n\n(Fixed Term for 2 years)\n\n\nPosition Summary\n\n\nUAE Nationals are encouraged to apply\n\n\nNew York University Abu Dhabi (NYUAD) seeks to appoint an Archivist to assist with the Management of the archival collections of the Arab Center for the Study of Art, including collection appraisal, cataloguing, digitization, access and website development. \n\n\nKey Responsibilities:\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>Generates metadata using established cataloging standards and appropriate reference tools to assign series and sub-series organization and descriptions according to the in-house style to support the research, teaching, and learning needs of students, faculty and other patrons</li>\n<li>Develops subject tag vocabulary as approved by the PI, the Investigator, and the co-PIs in their respective field</li>\n<li>Ensures metadata is consistent across entries, to be attached to the material for search purposes on the website</li>\n<li>Manages the technical aspects of the Center’s online archival collections</li>\n<li>Implements tests and quality checks in coordination with IT services and the development team at NYU Abu Dhabi and NYU Shanghai</li>\n<li>Recommends improvements to User Experience (UX) and interface (UI)</li>\n<li>Generates and updates content</li>\n<li>Paying particular attention to the design of the search function</li>\n<li>Develops and implements strategies for internal communication systems that documentarchival workflow, accountability, and maximize efficiency</li>\n<li>Breaks down tasks and setscataloguing and web design goals</li>\n<li>Communicates expected timelines and milestones to the PIs</li>\n<li>Contribute to the Annual Report</li>\n<li>Provides reference and liaison services to patrons</li>\n<li>Contribute to image requests</li>\n<li>Provides course support to NYUAD faculty in the form of guest lectures and presentations</li>\n<li>Supervise and train newly hired archivists and students</li>\n<li>Communicate with the Manager of Administration forcoordinating workflow for incoming collectionsAssists in developing the Center Policies and Procedures for the archiving and collectionmanagement, including guidelines for archival processing, ArchivesSpace and catalogingguidelines</li>\n<li>Maintain communication with Archival Collections Management at NYU, DLTS at NYU, SpecialCollections at NYUAD, Website and Communications teams at NYUAD and NYU Shanghai</li>\n<li>Works closely with the Researchers and the Digital Archivist in the post-acquisition evaluation and appraisal of collections, taking into consideration elements such as available physical space, condition of materials, original order, disposition, duplicates and digitization priority</li>\n<li>Contributes to social media via collaboration with the Assistant Researcher</li>\n<li>Manages selected and approved images for press requests</li>\n</ul>\n\n\nRequired Education:\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>Bachelor’s Degree in Library and Information Science or related field</li>\n</ul>\n\n\nPreferred Education:\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>Master’s Degree in Library and Information Management Science</li>\n</ul>\n\n\nRequired Experience:\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>5-8 years work experience with archives and databases</li>\n<li>General knowledge of the culture and history of the region</li>\n<li>Work experience with cataloging and metadata</li>\n<li>Management of digital content and development for web</li>\n<li>Fluency in Arabic and English</li>\n<li>Excellent writing skills</li>\n<li>Working knowledge of ArchivesSpace or equivalent archival CMS software</li>\n<li>Attention to detail, excellent organizational skills</li>\n</ul>\n\n\nPreferred Experience: \n\n\n<ul>\n<li>Demonstrated knowledge of the history of art of the Arab world</li>\n<li>Knowledge of research tools and reference tools</li>\n<li>Experience with digital humanities</li>\n<li>Additional language skills, ideally French or Turkish are desired</li>\n</ul>\n\n\nOther Information\n\n\nAbout NYUAD\n\n\nNYU Abu Dhabi is a degree-granting research university with a fully integrated liberal arts and science undergraduate program in the Arts, Sciences, Social Sciences, Humanities, and Engineering.
