{"job":{"jobId":2499839,"fk_accountId":null,"fk_organizationId":832,"fk_adminAccountId":null,"title":"Post Doctoral Research Fellow in Department of Applied Sciences, Translational Bioscience","description":"\n\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 20px; font-family: san-serif;\"><strong>ABOUT THE ROLE</strong></p>\n\n\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 20px; font-family: san-serif;\">The Johnson Laboratory in the Department of Applied Sciences, Translational Bioscience, at Northumbria University is seeking a Postdoc to join our team in studying the mechanisms underlying immune activation and disease progression in genetic mitochondrial disorders. Expertise in biology (cell, molecular, pathology) is an essential requirement of this position, a background in mitochondrial disease and/or immunology is preferred. Experience with cell culture is highly preferred. Ideal candidates should be motivated, organised, and able to work independently. The selected candidate will contribute to setting project goals, designing experiments, generating and analysing data, preparing manuscripts, and preparing and submitting funding applications. They will collaborate with others within the Johnson laboratory as well as with colleagues at Northumbria University, Newcastle University, and beyond. They will be required to demonstrate scientific integrity and safe laboratory practices.</p>\n\n\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 20px; font-family: san-serif;\"><strong>Duties Include:</strong></p>\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>Conceiving and executing disease biology focused research to achieve project and program goals.</li>\n<li>Performing routine and complex laboratory procedures. Our research team studies the role of mitochondria in biology and disease, with a particular focus on genetic mitochondrial diseases. Our group recently relocated from Seattle, Washington, USA to Northumbria University. Our mouse colony is housed at Newcastle University. Our laboratory is well equipped and well connected. Our work has led to multiple international awards in translational medicine and mitochondrial research, and we are pursuing an extremely exciting area of study probing the mechanisms that lead to immune activation and recruitment in genetic mitochondrial disease. The project you will be joining has been funded by a prestigious Academy of Medical Sciences professorship, and follows up on exciting new leads using novel techniques. We are ideally situated in Newcastle upon Tyne, home to a number of mitochondrial disease experts.
