There may be a possibility of extension depending on the quality of results achieved, and shorter positions with more hours would also be considered.</p>\n\n\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 20px; font-family: san-serif;\"><strong>The Role</strong></p>\n\n\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 20px; font-family: san-serif;\">The position is a funded grant to Dr Bismark Singh by the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft, German Research Foundation. The selected candidate would conduct research at the interface of theory and application. </p>\n\n\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 20px; font-family: san-serif;\">The project seeks to develop mathematical models for allocation of critical resources during pandemics. Populating these instances with real-world data we would then develop novel algorithms to solve them. The selected candidate would disseminate their research by publishing in top-tiered journals and presenting at international conferences. Experience in discrete optimization, demonstrated by at least one publication, is essential. Strong familiarity with stochastic optimization methodology, particularly sample average approximations and two-stage stochastic programming is required. Epidemiological knowledge of pandemics is not required but is helpful.
