We are particularly interested in candidates whose research experience can complement and further develop our current research areas in demography, global health, official statistics, statistical modelling and survey methodology.</p>\n\n\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 20px; font-family: san-serif;\">SSD is currently home to several major ESRC and H2020 grants, and members of SSD direct two ESRC Centres: the Centre for Population Change – Connecting Generations and the ESRC National Centre for Research Methods. Other key research institutes to which our staff contribute include the Southampton Statistical Sciences Research Institute (S3RI) and the Centre for Global Health and Policy.</p>\n\n\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 20px; font-family: san-serif;\"><strong>The role </strong> </p>\n\n\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 20px; font-family: san-serif;\">We are seeking to recruit a candidate with expertise in demography and/or social statistics and/or global health. The substantive area of their expertise should fit within one of the research groups in the department, but we are open to candidates whose research interest extend our reach within these groups. You will contribute to the educational activities of SSD through delivering innovative, research-led instruction, designing and marking assignments/examination papers, and through supporting an engaged learning community. In particular, you will contribute to the design and delivery of our quantitative research methods teaching, which is available across the school, and contribute to our Continuing Professional Development programme of teaching. You will also carry out administrative duties within the Department and the wider Faculty of Social Sciences. You will be expected to engage in research, including the publication of research results in peer-reviewed international journals, and demonstrate leadership in seeking research funding. A track record in leadership in seeking funding would be an advantage, and is particularly important for appointments to L5. The post-holder should be able to demonstrate a strong research portfolio and will also be expected to contribute to research income generation and enterprise activities.</p>\n\n\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 20px; font-family: san-serif;\">The post is available from February 2024 and the successful candidate would be expected to start as soon as possible thereafter. The post is available on either a part-time or full-time basis, but the minimum is 0.8 FTE. The post is fixed term for two years.</p>\n\n\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 20px; font-family: san-serif;\"><strong>About you</strong> </p>\n\n\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 20px; font-family: san-serif;\">You will have a PhD (or be nearing completion in case of L4) or equivalent professional qualifications and experience either in demography or social statistics or global health or a closely related discipline with a focus on using quantitative methods to address substantive questions. You should already have (for L5), or are beginning to have (for L4) a national and international reputation, publish in internationally leading academic journals, and possess the ability to plan, manage, organise and assess your own teaching contributions.
