It was a year of celebrations and accolades, culminating in a shortlisting for University of the Year by the Times Higher Education (THE) Awards.</p>\n\n\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 20px; font-family: san-serif;\">The University of East London is uniquely positioned as an anchor institution in east London and around the world, focused on reimagining the role of higher education in support of a fairer and more sustainable world.</p>\n\n\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 20px; font-family: san-serif;\">The Board of Governors is the University’s governing body and is the supreme authority within the University, responsible under the University’s Articles of Association for determining the educational character and mission of the University, for stewardship of its resources and assets and for oversight of its general activities. The Board is also responsible for the University’s compliance with the Office for Students regulatory framework.</p>\n\n\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 20px; font-family: san-serif;\">The Board is diverse and has an inclusive culture. It promotes openness and transparency and is fully supportive of the University’s aims to make a positive difference to the lives of our students, staff, and people in the local community. We are looking to appoint Board members who wish to make a significant contribution towards fulfilling the University’s aims.</p>\n\n\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 20px; font-family: san-serif;\"><strong>About the role</strong></p>\n\n\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 20px; font-family: san-serif;\">The Chair is responsible for the leadership of the Board, ensuring that it exercises its collective responsibility effectively, efficiently and in a manner appropriate for the proper conduct of public business. As Chair, you will provide clear leadership to the Board to ensure all members and the University Executive Board are working effectively and collaboratively. You will act as an ambassador for the University and will contribute to our success as a member of various committees, which play key roles in the detailed governance and oversight of the University. </p>\n\n\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 20px; font-family: san-serif;\"><strong>About you</strong></p>\n\n\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 20px; font-family: san-serif;\">We welcome expressions of interest from individuals with an exceptional track record of success in their own field, who bring strategic leadership qualities established through senior roles in complex and diverse organisations. You will have previous board member experience, either executive or non-executive and confidence in operating in a high-profile position with a record of encouraging bold thinking, risk-taking, and strategic decision-making. As the new Chair you will bring strong commercial acumen and strategic thinking skills with a high awareness and sensitivity towards potential conflicts that can arise within a complex organisation. </p>\n\n\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 20px; font-family: san-serif;\">The Board meets six times per year (one of which is a strategic awayday) and the time commitment for the Chair role is approximately five days per month. This is a voluntary role, and in return for your commitment and contribution, you will benefit from being part of a successful and ambitious University seeking to maximise opportunities for its community. You will also have the opportunity to build professional networks, and further build your non-executive profile and impact. </p>\n\n\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 20px; font-family: san-serif;\">The University is committed to equality, diversity, and inclusion.
