{"job":{"jobId":2511099,"fk_accountId":null,"fk_organizationId":494,"fk_adminAccountId":null,"title":"Research Associate in the Department of Psychological Medicine","description":"\n\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 20px; font-family: san-serif;\">Job description</p>\n\n\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 20px; font-family: san-serif;\">The Forces in Mind Trust (FiMT) Research Centre is looking to appoint a Post-Doctoral Research Associate to lead a project aimed at understanding the potential benefits of serving in the UK military, as well as to support the broader work of the FiMT Research Centre. </p>\n\n\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 20px; font-family: san-serif;\">Using various mechanisms and approaches, the FiMT Research Centre aims to ensure that policy makers and service providers supporting the UK Armed Forces Community are basing their decision-making on accurate and contemporary evidence. Additionally, the Centre seeks to facilitate collaboration between researchers, policymakers, and service providers to inform and transform policy and practice affecting ex-Service personnel and their families in the UK. The centre co-Directors are Professor Nicola Fear (KCMHR) and Ruth Harris (RAND Europe), and the centre is managed by Dr Mary Keeling. This post of Post-Doctoral Research Associate will be situated within KCMHR. </p>\n\n\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 20px; font-family: san-serif;\">KCMHR is the leading civilian UK centre of excellence for research with the Armed Forces Community. Independent of the Ministry of Defence, Office for Veterans’ Affairs, and chain of command, providing much-needed evidence on the health and well-being of Serving and ex-Serving personnel and their families. </p>\n\n\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 20px; font-family: san-serif;\">The post holder will undertake a comprehensive systematic review of current evidence regarding the benefits of service in the UK military. They will be responsible for the conduct of a qualitative study with a diverse group of ex-Service personnel, gathering personal narratives about Service in the UK military. Additionally, they will contribute to other work and outputs of the FiMT Research Centre. </p>\n\n\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 20px; font-family: san-serif;\">The successful candidate will be a highly skilled qualitative researcher who is enthusiastic, self-motivated, and highly organised. They will be experienced in leading and running studies and have high quality skills and experience conducting systematic literature reviews and qualitative research studies, including effective participant recruitment, conducting focus groups, and qualitative data analysis, (preferably with experience in discourse analysis, narrative approaches, and/or thematic analysis). They will be comfortable working independently and collaboratively between different teams and will successfully manage their time and workload, handling demanding deadlines. Candidates should specify their preference when applying. </p>\n\n\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 20px; font-family: san-serif;\">This is a fixed-term contract for 12 months.</p>\n\n\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 20px; font-family: san-serif;\">Key responsibilities</p>\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>Conducting a robust and thorough systematic review of evidence regarding the benefits of military Service. </li>\n<li>Undertake a qualitative study of ex-Service personnel, using focus groups to explore personal narratives of the potential benefits of service in the UK military. This will include the development of relevant research and recruitment materials, obtaining appropriate research ethics approval and conducting a high quality analysis of the generated data. </li>\n<li>Production of high-quality reports (lay and academic) and peer-reviewed scientific publications.</li>\n<li>Presentation of research at/attendance of internal/external meetings, seminars, and conferences. </li>\n<li>Production of general materials relevant to the FiMT Research Centre’s work i.e., reports, educational materials, news articles, research summaries.</li>\n<li>Contributing to the delivery of the FiMT Research Centre’s strategy and vision.</li>\n<li>To ensure data confidentiality, work within the requirements of the Health Research Authority (HRA), the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), the Data Protection Act 2018 and other regulatory bodies. </li>\n<li>Carry out other duties appropriate to their grade and role, as required. </li>\n</ul>\n\n\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 20px; font-family: san-serif;\"><em>The above list of responsibilities may not be exhaustive, and the post holder will be required to undertake such tasks and responsibilities as may reasonably be expected within the scope and grading of the post.</em> </p>\n\n\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 20px; font-family: san-serif;\">Skills, knowledge, and experience </p>\n\n\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 20px; font-family: san-serif;\"><strong>Essential criteria</strong> </p>\n\n\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 20px; font-family: san-serif;\">1. PhD in a relevant field. </p>\n\n\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 20px; font-family: san-serif;\">2. Interest in working in Armed Forces research and with the ex-Service community. </p>\n\n\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 20px; font-family: san-serif;\">3. Knowledge and experience in conducting high-quality systematic reviews. </p>\n\n\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 20px; font-family: san-serif;\">4. Knowledge and experience conducting qualitative research including data collection, facilitation of interviews and/or focus groups and data analysis. </p>\n\n\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 20px; font-family: san-serif;\">5. Experience in research project management, and delivery of high-quality research in a relevant field. </p>\n\n\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 20px; font-family: san-serif;\">6. Demonstrates an understanding and reflection of, and appropriate action related to, equality, equity, inclusion and diversity, and inclusive research practices. </p>\n\n\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 20px; font-family: san-serif;\">7. Experience working in multidisciplinary, collaborative teams. </p>\n\n\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 20px; font-family: san-serif;\">8. Excellent organizational skills, has attention to detail, and the ability to work to project milestones/deadlines. </p>\n\n\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 20px; font-family: san-serif;\">9. Excellent written and verbal communication skills for a variety of audiences with high standards of accuracy and attention to detail. </p>\n\n\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 20px; font-family: san-serif;\">10. Understanding of data protection and information governance in the research context. </p>\n\n\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 20px; font-family: san-serif;\"><strong>Desirable criteria</strong></p>\n\n\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 20px; font-family: san-serif;\">1. Experience working in Armed Forces Research or working with the Armed Forces community. </p>\n\n\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 20px; font-family: san-serif;\">2. Experience in undertaking discourse analysis, narrative, or thematic analysis. </p>\n\n\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 20px; font-family: san-serif;\">3. Strong academic record (e.g. evidence of peer-reviewed publications). </p>\n\n\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 20px; font-family: san-serif;\"><em>Please note that this is a PhD level role but candidates who have submitted their thesis and are awaiting award of their PhDs will be considered. In these circumstances the appointment will be made at Grade 5, spine point 30 with the title of Research Assistant.
