We support students in our Doctor of Medicine program and well as practitioners completing postgraduate specialist training.</p>\n\n\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 20px; font-family: san-serif;\">Medical research is another important activity within our school. Over one hundred postgraduate students are involved in a broad spectrum of research ranging from basic laboratory research to clinical and epidemiological projects across the campus. <strong>The </strong><a data-mz=\"\" href=\"http://www.kollinginstitute.org.au/\" rel=\"no-follow\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Kolling Institute of Medical Research</strong></a> is the oldest research institute in the state of New South Wales. It forms the nucleus of our research activity, which is conducted at a variety of locations on the hospital campus and throughout the northern area of Sydney.</p>\n\n\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 20px; font-family: san-serif;\">This is an excellent opportunity for a <strong>Postdoctoral Research Associate</strong> to work in the <strong>Northern Clinical School within Cardiovascular Research team.</strong> <strong>The Postdoctoral Research Associate</strong> will join a growing research team led by Prof Gemma Figtree. The Research Associate will help to coordinate and undertake experimental data collection, analysis and interpretation and prepare publications.</p>\n\n\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 20px; font-family: san-serif;\"><strong>Your key responsibilities will be to:</strong></p>\n\n\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 20px; font-family: san-serif;\">This <strong>Postdoctoral Research-focused academic at Level A</strong> is expected to have rodent animal modelling /handling experience to be able to apply and develop their expertise in conducting pre-clinical research. They will have the opportunity to work on research initiatives supporting the discovery and development of novel biomarkers of cardiovascular disease.</p>\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>work closely with the team leader, team members and external collaborators.</li>\n<li>to work independently and as part of the preclinical research team, to undertake quantitative research, including data collection, analysis and results dissemination.</li>\n<li>assist in the development and publication of scientific papers.</li>\n<li>assist in all activities related to conduct of the research including in the reviewing and updating of research, ethics, and standard operating procedures and research reporting.</li>\n<li>contribute to the design and lead the execution of experiments in model organisms within grant deadline timeframes.</li>\n<li>assist in the co-supervision of students.</li>\n<li>maintains quality, standards and excellence in any research activities and output</li>\n</ul>\n\n\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 20px; font-family: san-serif;\"><strong>About you</strong></p>\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>must hold a <strong>PhD</strong> in Biomedical Sciences OR in a relevant discipline</li>\n<li>demonstrated experience working in laboratory research with animal handling Is a<strong> MUST</strong></li>\n<li>demonstrated knowledge and experience with cardiovascular and diabetes models, e.g. small animal echocardiography, hemodynamic measures, survival surgeries (highly desirable skills include - demonstrated expertise in animal behaviour protocols, molecular and histological analyses, cryostat operation, knowledge of anaesthetics, drug delivery procedures including oral gavage and minipump implantation)</li>\n<li>demonstrated experience in preparing and executing animal ethics submissions</li>\n<li>experience developing and contributing to strategic direction of research projects and evidence by producing original, high quality and independent research</li>\n<li>demonstrates a research interest in cardiothoracic and vascular health</li>\n<li>developing research profile evidenced by original, high-quality and independent published research</li>\n<li>Broad skill set and proficiency using molecular assays, biochemical experiments in cells, cell culture techniques, preferably relative to the cardiovascular system</li>\n<li>demonstrates an ability to communicate well with team members and supervisors</li>\n<li>excellent written and oral communication skills with proficiency in statistical analyses software packages such as GraphPad Prism</li>\n<li>experience in a research-intensive environment and working in academia, with previous experience in the supervision of research students desirable</li>\n<li>ability to communicate effectively across a range of forums/stakeholders and multidisciplinary teams</li>\n<li>experience in the development of academic manuscripts or report writing</li>\n<li>accuracy, attention to detail and highly organized, with the ability to work according to strict deadlines and manage various demands</li>\n</ul>\n\n\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 20px; font-family: san-serif;\">To keep our community safe, please be aware of our <a data-mz=\"\" href=\"https://www.sydney.edu.au/covid-19/health-safety/keeping-our-campus-covid-safe.html\" rel=\"no-follow\" target=\"_blank\">COVID safety precautions</a> which form our conditions of entry for all staff, students and visitors coming to campus.</p>\n\n\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 20px; font-family: san-serif;\"><strong>Sponsorship / work rights for</strong> <strong>Australia</strong></p>\n\n\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 20px; font-family: san-serif;\">Please note: Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
