For a job opening as postdoctoral candidate in history of science and epistemology of planning, we are seeking an innovative and critical research personality. You will become part of the Key Research Area History of Science at the Department of History and work closely with colleagues from Vienna as well as international networks. The employment duration will be 5+1 years.</p>\n\n\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 20px; font-family: san-serif;\"><strong>Your future tasks:</strong></p>\n\n\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 20px; font-family: san-serif;\">You actively participate in research, teaching and administration: your main task is drafting, researching and completing a habilitation or second book, developing an independent profile, publishing and lecturing activities on an international level. Furthermore, the candidate will be involved in organizing international conferences with project partners, and independently teach seminars, as regulated by the Collective Bargaining Agreement (two courses per semester). You will represent the history of science in the B.A. and M.A. programmes of History, as well as in the M.A. Epistemologies of Science and Technology, which is organised jointly with STS and the philosophy of science.</p>\n\n\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 20px; font-family: san-serif;\"><strong>This is part of your personality:</strong></p>\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>Successful applicants have an excellent command of several fields within the history of science, and a high proficiency in key methods of the field; they must demonstrate profound expertise in historical/political epistemology and combine these with methods within the history of economics.</li>\n<li>Candidates have a research focus on the epistemology of planning. This could encompass research projects regarding economic models, resource management, the history of political economics, administration or welfare, economic metrics and standards of living, techniques of household organization or traditions of alternative planning.</li>\n<li>They have completed their dissertation in history of science or a related discipline (certificate must be available by the date of employment).</li>\n<li>During the initial period, fluency in German must be documented; spoken and written English is likewise important for the day-to-day work in our team. Language acquisition, especially of non-European languages, will be supported during the employment period.</li>\n<li>Familiarity with procedures and structures of university administration are of advantage, as is experience abroad.</li>\n</ul>\n\n\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 20px; font-family: san-serif;\">What we offer:</p>\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>You will be employed for 40 hours/week.</li>\n<li>The contract will start on a mutually agreed date, 1. Former residents of the city include Mozart and Beethoven, while the works of Austrian artists Egon Schiele and Gustav Klimt are on display in the city’s museums. </p><p>Its stunning architecture, baroque palaces, and the famous Vienna State Opera make the city a popular tourist destination.
