The School teaches a BA in International Relations, an interdisciplinary degree in ‘Economics, Politics and Law’, and offers Politics on the university’s Bachelor of Arts (Joint Honours) programme. It offers seven taught postgraduate programmes in politics, the MA in International Relations, MSc in Public Policy, MA in International Security and Conflict Studies, the MSc in Climate Change: Policy, Media, and Society, the MA in European Law and Policy, and the International Master in Security, Intelligence, and Strategic Studies, delivered jointly with the University of Glasgow, Charles University, and the University of Trento. The School has over forty research students and offers a structured PhD in Politics and International Relations.</p>\n<p>The School of Law and Government are now seeking to appoint the Paddy Moriarty Professor of Government and International Studies, to begin on 1 September 2020.</p>\n<p><strong>Paddy Moriarty Chair in Government and International Studies</strong></p>\n<p>The successful candidate will have an excellent and sustained publication record of the highest international standard in comparative politics and/or international relations. She/he will have a PhD in Politics or another related subject. They will have a proven track record of excellence in teaching and of inspiring students, as well as experience of PhD student supervision. The appointed candidate will be expected to make a significant leadership contribution in the School and also to have the willingness and capacity to take on a significant senior role in School and to support and mentor junior colleagues.</p>\n<p><strong>Duties and Responsibilities:</strong></p>\n<p><strong>Research and Scholarship</strong></p>\n<p>The successful candidate will be dedicated to high-quality research and publication in the field of politics and international relations on an individual and a collaborative basis.</p>\n<p><strong>They will be expected to:</strong></p>\n<ul>\n<li>Publish articles in leading peer-review journals and/or books with high-profile publishers;</li>\n<li>Develop and support research initiatives with the School Law and Government and the wider university;</li>\n<li>Apply for national and international grants to contribute to the School’s research agenda; and</li>\n<li>Attract and supervise high-calibre PhD students.</li>\n</ul>\n<p><strong>Teaching and Learning</strong></p>\n<p>The successful candidate will be required to contribute to the development, teaching, assessment, and administration of modules across a range of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, including:</p>\n<ul>\n<li>The teaching and design modules at undergraduate, postgraduate, and PhD levels,</li>\n<li>Contributing to the design, development, and management of future programmes and other developments in the field of politics and international relations,</li>\n<li>Supervising undergraduate and postgraduate theses, and</li>\n<li>Contribute to the wider teaching of the School as required by the Head.</li>\n</ul>\n<p><strong>Service and Contribution to University and Society</strong></p>\n<p>Activities taken on the successful candidate’s own initiative, or allocated by the Head of School, may include:</p>\n<ul>\n<li>Engaging with policy-makers and the media,</li>\n<li>Participating in school and university meetings,</li>\n<li>Representing the School in marketing and the recruitment of students,</li>\n<li>Developing relationships with stakeholders within and outside the University.</li>\n</ul>\n<p><strong>Mandatory training:</strong></p>\n<p>The postholder will be required to undertake the following mandatory compliance training: Orientation, Health & Safety, and Data Protection (GDPR). The university offers a total of 70 taught programmes across Humanities and Social Sciences, Science and Health, Engineering and Computing and DCU Business School faculties including 10 different degrees in teacher education (DCU has established the first faculty of education in an Irish university).</p><p> </p><p>Occupying a 72-acre site in the Glasnevin area, just north of Dublin itself. DCU is home to over 12,000 registered students, including full-time undergraduate and postgraduate students, as well as students doing distance learning.</p><p> </p><p>The university boasts a number of Research and Enterprise Hubs that facilitate research partnerships between academics and external organisations.</p><p>It also comprises the John and Aileen O'Reilly library, with 400 workstations, 1,200 seats and 18 collaborative rooms. It bills itself as the first university library to put digital records on the same footing as books and journals, granting access to some 250,000 volumes, a number that is growing as technology improves.</p><p> </p><p>Its campus also includes restaurants, a theatre and conference centre, a crèche and a university sports complex.</p><p> </p><p>DCU's other major focus is business and enterprise: the university estimates 50,000 of their graduates are employed in significant positions within industry. It also prides itself on its USTART start-up accelerator programme, which supports students by lending them space and funding to launch their own businesses.</p><p> </p><p>The university separately runs a series of summer schools as part of a 'DCU in the Community' programme.
